R50/53 And the Police like them, too!
My daughter and I went out yesterday for a Mom/Daughter afternoon and I asked her if she wanted to stop by the dealership and take a look at the color of the MINI we ordered. As we pulled up to the lot we saw a county police car cruising slowly around. My daughter was concerned that perhaps we shouldn't be there since the dealership was closed. But I told her that Sundays in Maryland are when most people do their car looking because they can do it without salespeople around.
Well, we got out of our car and started browsing around. The had moved the VR/W model onto the lot to use as a demo (I'm really glad I got to see the color in natural light - much nicer than under the dealer's overheads) and the officer pulled up next to us and rolled down his window. Big grin on his face, "Great cars aren't they? Isn't that all red one over there cool?" I had to laugh. He started telling me about the MINI websites and that people are always coming by the lot to look so apparently he is, too. I have a feeling Mr. Police Officer is going to be ordering one soon. I told him that I had heard that MINI drivers tend to "speed." He smiled, shrugged, and said, "Eh!" Hee-hee! I'll have to remember that response if I ever get pulled over.

A Suburban with 2 female officers pulled into KFC behind me the other day...One was doing her best hands-crossed-over-chest-mirrored-sunglasses-Yo-in-a-heap-o'trouble-boy stereotype, but the other one was all questions and compliments. They "detained" me for a half hour. I think the stereotype couldn't keep it up any longer...

There is a Prince Georges County MD Officer who owns a IB Cooper S. You'll know Bobby when you see his license plates. All I'll say about his tags is that with the dark color of the car and the dark tint on his windows they should say ROBOCOP as opposed to what he has now.
I got stopped by a Texas state tropper: I was not violating any laws. The officer comes to the Mini, motions to lower the window and
says, "You can't drive a Go-cart on public streets". Then he grins and walks around the car, wants a detailed description and has a bunch of questions.
It seems he & his wife really, really want a red Cooper S. Very nice fellow & a surprising experience: I was going 100 mph on a broad sweeper just a few miles earlier!
Get ready to be stopped!

My partner Tammie is a cop and although she has grown to love HARMINI, the first reactions from her coworkers were mixed. Now they are asking HER questions about MINIs all the time and several of them are interested in becoming owners.
Am I the only one who thinks it's totally obnoxious and inappropriate for a cop to pull you over just to check out your car? I mean, how arrogant is that? You're supposed to be so giddy and relieved at not getting a ticket that mr. police officer comes off looking like a swell, down-to-earth guy and you indulge all of his questions. I've heard these stories quite a few times now on MCO, and every time I think of how different my reaction would be if Boston's finest pulled this crap on me.
P.S. I don't like cops  Riding a bike or being a pedestrian in Boston will do that to you.

I agree totally. I hate cops as well. They think they can do whatever they please.

I agree, I don't think that they should pull you over just to look at your car and ask questions! But, if I do get pulled over for violating the law, I plan to use it to my advantage. I'll sweetly say something like "I know why you pulled me over, officer, you'd like to get a closer look at my car!" Hey, ya gotta try!
Hey don't say what my goofy uncle said to a cop who had pulled him over for speeding...he thought he would be cute and say..Hey I don't have any donuts, why you stopping me? Man, I thought what an idiot, and yes he DID get a ticket.

>>You think the cops will find your car? I asked a cop once about lojack...I said, does it really work? He said "Yeah if we even feel like looking for your car."
Too bad we can't all be lot lizards...

ants, I'm confused. In one post you say to hug a trooper then here you say you hate cops? Aren't cops and troopers the same? Or close enough to the same that you'd have the same respect?
Sorry, I didn't mean to turn this into an all-out cop bashing thread; I just think that pulling people over with flashing lights in traffic just to ogle their cars and bask in your goodly-heartedness is an abuse of power.
As is most of their behavior that I observe. Speeding needlessly on busy city streets, not using turn signals and running me and my bicycle off the road, not enforcing crosswalk laws when people almost get run down right in front of them, hanging out at busy intersections ogling women, etc.
I know there are good cops too, but my impression is overwhelmingly bad. Sorry. (shrug)

I was being sarcastic when I said hug a trooper.

And for what it's worth, I'll point out that the personal attacks on this thread started with 2minis. Until then it was an exchange of opinions. Maybe he should think twice about what constitutes "stupid things" being posted on this site.

In my mind, it doesn't take thought twice. To make a statement, generalized..
'I hate cops' is stupid. It is like me saying all people who sell cars are 'stupid crooks.'
See...no need to think about it twice...and personally someone saying 'I hate cops' is something I consider a personal attack. Be safe on your bike.

Sorry, I didn't see the sarcasm before ant. I figured with your previous job as an EMT/fireman thing gave you insight into those lines of professions and I took you hug a trooper thing seriously.
