Here she is with her new brake lights! Took me less than 20 minutes as I had to remove my amp casing and JL audio stealthbox out of the way.

What do you think guys? Sorry It was kinda bright out.

I'd like to thank Mini-Rolls for sending me his Brake Light Kit
in the mail. Very simple instructions and is relatively cheap...only $12.

I see someone's reflection in the tail light!
Maybe the best picture will come at dusk with a little lower light. Take a picture of just the tail lights on. Then again with the brake pedal depressed for the brighter red lights-top and bottom.

This mod is good to have, safe, easy to install, works well and hopefully will make it easy for other drivers to brake in time.

What "KIT" are we talking about?
I was unaware that there was a kit to do this mod.
I think Mini Rolls might have a thing going here.
I might be interested in the KIT.

The link she used for the photos is down, or not allowing us to see them. They are on a different site. It is not you.

To each his/her own, I felt more confident in doing it right with secure connectors and exceptional auto grade wiring that won't have a chance in coming off or shorting anything electrical in the car.

Mini-Rolls wasn't trying to make bank money in this brake light mod. He was just providing those who are hesitant in doing this mod themselves, an easy way to do it...that's all.

Once again.....
A: There's nothing un-secure about using a stiff wire and electrical tape
(note: stiff wire is the same as a paperclip)

B: Unless you use the jumper to hang your spare charms, piercing jewelery, fishing weights, etc, the only time it will come shooting off is in a situation which involves a lot of kinetic energy suddenly transferring to or from your MINI

and C:

Unless you use some sort of joke paperclip, or one of the oversized triangle/square ones, how in the heck is it going to touch anything to cause it to short? The worst that can happen is the whole jumper falls out, which is actually an advantage to using a stiff wire jumper...

Not trying to sound like a jerk, but I do get somewhat tired of defending the paperclip method from wild fears... If I was that afraid, I'd just leave my MINI in the garage and never leave the house...

For your information, I saw Mini-Roll's thread on this mod and purchased the kit immediately. I didn't bother to look elsewhere on this forum for threads on other options such as your "paperclip method."

So stop being so "defensive" to those who don't know what your method is about in the first place. I am not very experienced in electrical "anything" therefore I opted for simplicity rather than fear, so EXCUSE ME!

Nobody was being offensive to the paperclip method, so you don't have to defend it. Someone just stated that their personal opinion was they preferred wires and connectors. Get off your soapbox.

thejamesgang,

thanks for understanding!
As for the Kit, it contained items you can purchase at Radio Shack:

auto grade wire about 5 inches long with snap connectors on each side. You know, the ones you can buy at Kragens auto parts. The connector has room for two wires to be spliced together with metal and a flap that goes over to "snap" into place. I used a crimper to get some leverage over the connectors.

I wish I new what the connectors were called to better describe them.

that won't have a chance in coming off or shorting anything electrical in the car
Just stating that there is no chance of this happening with a paperclip and electrical tape.. heck, forget the electrical tape and you still don't have a chance for a short...

sorry, mis-information irks me, just like if somone kept posting an urban legend, i'd be discrediting it at the drop of a hat also...

and my other point is that you don't have to be skilled electically to do it yourself, just some tape, a thick paperclip (or two) and a pair of needlenose (or stubnose) pliers... and you're good to go...

>>Rocketboy_

Speaking from experience there is no way to guarantee the paperclip will stay put.

Lets look at it this, a person uses the pape clip and does not get the plug seated and it pops off, (could happen) and with no tape or protection on the paperclip the first time the brake is applied it WILL short out, maybe just a fuse will blow but the wiring could be damaged also.

I look at this mod like I look at all things, a paperclip is not a good way to go. I have had a few people that have done the paperclip method get a kit from me. So I am not the only one that thinks the paperclip is temporary.
