If I want to add a CD Changer...

I know it seems stupid because I have the iPod, XM, etc., BUT I want to add a CD changer anyway

So...the factory ones seem to be decently expensive. Three questions..

1) Is there anywhere to get a factory CD changer for a good price?
2) With the Blitzsafe XM direct, am I still able to plug it in to the factory changer controls? And, if so, how?
3) Can I buy any CD changer and plug it in to the changer controls? How hard of a job is this if it's doable?

Thanks in advance for the info

Masochist? Reminiscing?
Used ones come up now and then, given that everyone has moved to ipods.
I'm not certain, but I thought the Blitzsafe plugged into the changer controls.

The Blitzsafe XM Direct, just like the OEM SIRIUS receiver, has a "passthrough" ability to still allow you to attach a CD changer after it.

However, you mentioned you had an iPod. Unless are currently attaching it via Aux input (or FM transmitter), then you might have a tough choice. Most iPod adapters work by emulating a CD changer... which means they replace a CD changer. You can't have both. The only exception I can think of off-hand is the Intravee II solution (which lets you buy Alpine accessories and adapters, including both the Alpine iPod adapter and the Alpine CD changer at the same time), but that would get expensive fast.

As for which CD changer to get - without something fancy like I just mentioned, you pretty much have to buy a BMW/MINI CD changer.

I'm using the iPod via AUX, so I'm good there

Thanks for the input though, sounds like you know your stuff.

I bought a changer here on Nam reasonable, but had to remove the Ipod harness in order to make the changer work. I think a person could make both things work ,but you would have to have a muliple contact switch spliced in.If you're a computer geek and want to screw around downloading songs do the IPOD hussle go for it (I'm on a dialup so its a PITA!) , but you could go to the store buy a few cds & put them in at that time, and presto instant, no glitch, better fidelity tunes .

I bet there are many of us who have the oem CD changers, but don't necessarily want them (like me for example who bought my car used). Might be worth putting a want ad up in the classifieds (or pming me). Good luck!

Since most people go the iPod route - there should be a LOT of CD changers on eBay.

Thanks guys. I can't decide if I actually want to go ahead and get it or not. I always forget to bring my iPod in the car and XM has been boring me lately.
