programming

ok, so i picked up my MINI on monday and so far its awesome!! but im trying to figure some of the programming stuff... it seems like some of the stuff in the manual is not possible.

Ok, here we go....

First off, the manual isnt very clear about the rain sensor programming deal... when i scroll through the OBC, i see a picture with 2 different "clouds" i guess and you can select between the two, im assuming its sensitivity? but im not sure, can anyone with the auto rainwipers helo me here?

Next, pathway lighting... i have the auto headlights as well and it says the manual you can have it set so that the cars lights remain on after you lock it but my lights never stay on, i have it set to 40s but still nothing.

Next, the manual says you can have a audible alert when locking or unlocking the doors, all i get is the parking light flash... the OBC doesnt even display a sound icon.

finally, i have comfort access and i was wondering if there is any way to make it so that the interior lights come on when i get in range?

Thanks a lot everybody!

That sounds new. My car was an early March build and it didn't have any clouds or sensitivity settings. It was supposed to have a sensitivity setting for the auto on headlights, but didn't, either.

I haven't figured that one out, either. Like you, mine is set at 40 seconds, but it doesn't do anything.

That was a change for the U.S. market. None of the R56s come with an audible altert, despite what the manual says. I actually like that they're only allowing the light flash. Wish other manufacturers would do the same.

I haven't heard of any way to do that.

My car has been in the shop for the past week, after a software update didn't hold, after they installd the Ipod connector and the Sirius radio. They solved that problem and I am driving up to Portland on Thursday to pick it up. I'll let you know if any of those items above change from the general car software update.

Here's the owner's manual entry for the Pathway lighting:

The trick is that you have to pull on the headlamp stalk after turning the lights off (or after turning the car off, if you've got auto-on headlights). That will turn them back on for however long you've programmed the delay.

With mine, along with the two clouds, there's a small bar graph of four boxes along the bottom. With each press of the button OBC button, the next box fills in.

I wouldn't imagine so, my guess is that the keyfob is an RFID chip- the car sends an encoded radio pulse when you press the black button on the handle. (If you hold it down when a keyfob is out of range, you can here the car click.) In order to do what you're thinking, the car would need to be sending out pulses constantly, which would eventually become a battery drain issue.

Also, the range of the comfort access portion of the fob seems to be about three feet

That setting adjusts how much water it takes on the windscreen before the wipers work (in auto-mode only). Look at the end of your wiper stalk, you'll see a button, next to it there is a small window picture with an "A". You have to turn on the auto-wipers every time you restart the car by pressing this button. Once they are in auto mode, they will detect water and work depending on the setting in the OBC you are seeing.

See this thread for more info.

Seems about right. I am seeing the same. Occasionally have a problem when opening the back trunk.

The Audible Alert can only be used or de-activated if you have the factory or accesory installed Alarm system.

When you get that installed and programmed at your Dealer then the next time you go into the Computer to change the Parking light flash on lock/unlock function, there will be a audible alert+flash, Alert only, Flash only, or nothing option for both unlock and lock.

the pathway lighting should also work wether you have auto on lights or not.

Make sure it is set for like 40 s then start your car at night, then shut off the car, pull key out pull headlight stalk toward you once like you are flashing your lights, it should come on. If not, make sure your headlight switch is set to off not parking lights on headlights on. Then see if it works, that might have something to do with it.

Is this another one of those automatic - but really manual - options on the 07s. I have the rain sensor windshield that only works if you turn it on EVERY time you start up the car. I would expect the pathway lights to automatically stay on for 40s after I turn off the engine because that is how it is billed. If I have to pull this or push that then shut off the car and say a prayer before opening the door every time, I think I'll just get a flashlight!

Sorry.... feeling a bit like ranting today....

I understand, but sometimes you don't need pathway lighting so the give you an option i guess.

The Rain sensing wipers has to be activated everythime cause it would suck to go througha cash was and you mess up your wipers ina car wash or somethihng, i know bad example but it has to be that way, same as BMW's actually

That may rush you to get out of the car once you turn off the engine. It makes more sense that you turn it on just before you get out. Also, if it were automatic it would turn on even in the daytime.

Would that be so terrible? It is only 40s after all. What about daytime headlights? Same principle

No, it wouldn't be so terrible but at least to me it is intuitive for this to be a manual rather than automatic feature. By the way, the owner's manual says it can be set from 10 seconds to 4 minutes.

You can download owner's manuals from the "Owner's Lounge" portion of the MINIUSA site. I can't get into the OL right now, but I don't know if the issue is with their site or my browser.

If you send me a PM, I'll e-mail you a PDF version of the owner's manual.

I finally got through a little later. After you go to the Owner's Lounge, click on the "Your MINI" tab, and then select "Owner's Manual".

Or, you can get any of the MINI owner's manuals from my iDisk here:
