What kind of coolant does the R56 take?

My R56 MCS with 10000 miles on it has low coolant. its about an inch below the MINIMUM line. i called the dealer and they said just put any type of coolant in there to top it off. this just didn't sound right to me. anybody know anything about this?

To top it off, just use some distilled water. A couple ounces of water won't affect anything. You should not use just any old kind of coolant.

Send your idiot dealer a bill for the $1 gallon of distilled water. Don't forget to add their standard hourly labor charge.

The closest answer I can give you is ZEREX G05 which is BMW approved. I would not recommend diluteing the present fluid with distilled water unless it was an emergency as it will alter your boiling/freezing/corrosion protection over time. I would recommend that you purchase and have MINI send you a gallon of their stuff since you live so far away.

Is this not covered under the service warranty?

If you can get to dealer just buy a bottle of the MINI coolant. Easiest and safest thing rather than risking mixing coolants.

no, low fluids (oil, washer fluid, coolant, etc.) that need to be topped off between service visits are not covered, but good dealers would typically top it off at no charge if you stopped in.

now if we are talking about low fluids because of a leak or other malfunction, yes, that would be covered as would the repair.
