Flywheel/clutch problem??

On a cold start up I get a loud screeching noise when I let the clutch out. It happens only in first gear maybe once or twice and I don't hear it again until the next cold start up. Is this a sympton of the dreaded flywheel/clutch problem that I've seen on other threads? I have about 2500 more miles before the next inspection but I'm thinking maybe I should take it in now. It's a 250 mile round trip and a whole day at the dealer. Any advice??

I have the same thing...my screech isn't really "overly" loud, but it's annoying...sounds like fingernails and a blackboard kind of?
Responses are appreciated!!!

My 2006 MCS has 14500 miles on it and I had the dual mass flywheel and clutch assembly replaced under warranty 2 weeks ago. It was making a noise at idle in neutral. Not loud but it was there. No other noise was present. I believe there is a top secret 00 (double naught) recall on this but if there is I can't repeat it....Go to your dealer and ask them to correct this problem now so you have lots of warranty left in case there are further issues. So far I have not had any other problems as I understand the parts that were put back in my car are an improvement over the initial parts. (I say that as I cross my fingers) You should have no problem getting them to correct this....oh from what I understand you can drive the car like this but it might possibly get a bit worse...

I have a 2004 MCS that had this same problem. It was just as I let out the clutch and only a couple of times before it went away. I have 36000 miles and it had been doing it for quite a while. I took it to the local Mini Dealership (Flow Mini in NC) and they said it was a fluid leak that was getting onto the clutch plate and flywheel. They replaced both under warranty and fixed the leak and I have been squeek free ever since. If you search you can find the sound described as a screach, bark, squeek and other names but the fact that it only happens when the car has been sitting around a while and only happens the first few times you let out the clutch is the real telling factor.

Is there an offical recall on this problem or is it up to the Dealer to make or not make the repair. I can just hear the famous,"they all do that" line as they send you back out the door. I would like to have some kind of proof in order to plead my case. Any advice??
