R52 My MINI burned up my iPod!
My MINI burned up my iPod!
My Ipod was connected to the Mini and I was enjoying music as always, I tried to skip a song with my steering wheel controls, the track number changed in the stereo but the Ipod kept playing the same song! I tried to skip with my stereo key and same thing happen, the track number change but I was still hearing the same song. So I just switch to play CD not thinking there was a problem.
This morning as I get into the car I tried the Ipod again and I was met with the same scenario so I disconnected the Ipod and tried to connected again, now the stereo doesn’t even recognized it and it keeps telling me “NO MAGAZINE”
The Ipod screen reads MINI ok to disconnect when is not even connected!
What can I do?

You need to reset your iPod, which varies depending on which iPod/Nano/whatever you have. Usually it's holding down both the play/pause and menu buttons until the screen flashes and the iPod resets.
My OEM iPod adapter does this to my iPod regularly. Resetting it fixes it everytime. But I will be switching to a DICE soon, I can't stand what a PITA the OEM adapter is.

+1 has happened to me as well.
I thought briefly about the fact that perhaps my MINI simply didn't like my taste in music. I quickly dismissed that thought, and just reset my iPod.

Wow - my factory ipod adapter has been a pain, but not that bad yet that I have had to reset. Guess I'll keep this info handy for when it does finally happen. When I first had the adapter installed, it quit working entirely, so I took it back to the dealer, who informed me that my ipod had died, because they tried it with the SA's ipod, and it worked fine. By the time I got back in the car, my ipod had miraculously recovered....
Another vote for the Dice. Add the voice tag to the playlists outlined in the audio forum and you're good to go.
Hey I have had this same problem but it is getting worse. I reset the ipod, the controls work normal for a coupla of minutes, then boom, back to refusing to change anything but the volume. Anybody else had this problem? Anyone else have a better fix?
By the way, it used to happen only rarely, until itunes updated myipod software some months back. Then they updated it again last week and the problem i sback and workse than before!

There is simply no comparison in sound quality between any line-in adapter including the AUX jack vs. any FM modulator, which always sounds like radio.
I had a lot of problems with my iPod too until I flashed it back to the original firmware. Had to use a very old version of iTunes to flash an older firmware over a newer, but it has worked flawlessly ever since!

I've had to reset my iPod at least 3-4 times in the 2 years that I've owned the adaptor. On my old 60GB 'photo' iPod classic, I just hold down the center button and the top of the circle for 10 seconds or so and it will do a hard reset and reboot after about a minute. It generally clears up these issues.

Somebody tell me what DICE is. I'm planning to order a MINI in the next couple of days. I was going to get the iPod adapter in it. I don't own an iPod yet, so any alternatives could be considered.
Does the factory head unit play MP3 CD's?
Thanks.

Same issues here. I was leaving it in the car for weeks without ever removing it. Taking it out daily, and the occasional reset seems to keep things running smooth (60gb photo for the record)
