Check Engine Light Just Came On

So my check engine light just came on, but I think I know what it is.

I happen to notice that i have exactly 1400 miles to go till my inspection 2 is due. Can anyone conferm that the light comes on with 1400 miles to go?

Thanks

you should check your fluids. the cel light does not typically come on when you near your inspection mileage

The CE light wil not come on just because you r X miles from maint....

System has detected something else...usually either a fluid low or an emissions issue.

If you don't have a code reader, get yourself to an AutoZone. They read them for free (unless you are in CA).

Check your gas cap

This happened to me, It turned out to be that I didn't tighten my gas cap enough, I thought I felt the click, Turned out I imagined it. :D

AutoZone Confirmed it for me to be sure,
It took something like twenty starts for it to turn off. The dealer confirmed it would reset on it's own in twenty if I didn't want to make the drive to the dealer. It's sort of far for me to go just to get a reset.

The drive out there is all straight roads that are really not that fun so I just waited it out. No problem...

UPDATE

So I stopped by at my local parts store. It turns out I had 3 codes in my system.

P1229 Manfacurer Contrl. Fuel Air Metering ----> Gas Cap

As well as the following three "pending" codes.

p0136 O2 censor Circuit (bank 1 sensor 2)

P0123 Throttle/Pedal Sensor/Switch "A" Circuit High

P0222 Throttle/Petal Position Sensor/Switch "B" Circuit Low

Can anyone explain the last three in english? Are we talking fuses?

It will happen many, many times. Usually it's the gas cap not keeping pressure. Often will go away after three starts, warms to normal, and shut downs.

Get used to it. Mine's on about 30% of the time, and there's never anything wrong, and Gromit just keeps going and going and going......

well you're gonna need an o2 sensor.bank1 sensor 2 is the one after the cat. and if your not noticing any significant problems in your throttle response i wouldn't worry about the last two. If they are history codes and not present codes than its not a big deal. change the o2 sensor, confirm that your gas cap is sealing properly and then clear the codes. if the cel comes back on with the same throttle codes take it to the dealer to have it diagnosed. depending on your warranty the 02 sensor should be covered. hope this helps

Every couple months, I will accidentally stall the MINI while backing it up our rather steep driveway. Something about stalling while cold in reverse going up hill convinces the car's computer that something is wrong. Goes away after a few trips.

You can drive for thousands and thousands of miles with that bad o2 sensor since it is after the cat. The light will come on, and them go off in 3-4 drive cycles. But if you are under warranty just go get a new one (note: sometimes a bad exhaust gasket causes this code, as the o2 sensor is picking up on the leak).

I really need a code reader! Good info mentioned above. I had my SES light come on and the dealer reset it. No explanation or problem. I guess it was a software issue and they updated my software. This was about 1.5-2 years ago on my 04 MCS

Hello
I changed the pulley to 17% and changed the water of cooling system...

When I turn on the car the engine light comes on (error P1229). I Delete the error and not returned to come on...

Now the car makes a noise starting from 2000rpm, it is like wind pass through a bad closed window.

Who knows what can be? I also have the BPV, may have something to be with it?

Best Regards and Thanks
