Backed into parking column today (w/ pics) =::(

I wasn't used to tandem parking spots and the two parking columns on both sides of the spaces, so as I was backing out (and late for school), BAM:

What's next? It seems like the damage is extensive enough that I'll need to get a new bumper, but if there's an expert out there who says this can be repairable, that'd be great news.

I already PMed a few people here responding to their ads selling their bumpers, but anyone know how much it will be to get a new MC aero bumper painted and installed in Chili Red? I'm going in to a bodyshop that MINI of Universal City works with tomorrow to get the estimate.

Anyone else selling their MC aero bumper in Chili Red?

I was going to post some pictures of my newly installed clear tail lights before this accident, so I guess I killed two birds with one stone with this post. hahah

All kidding aside, what a horrible thing to happen to Stella .. just looking at the pics make me cringe

Oops..

Been there, done that (many moons ago with a '71 VeeDub - ruined a nice chrome bumper).

Certainly not the end of the world.. I believe I saw a rear bumper on ebay.. you might try a search there.

Tried, but no luck, unfortunately.

Good thing it wasnt on the other side. Then you may have hit the the tail pipe as well adding who knows how much more expense. Still though, that sucks.

I guess you're right. But it seems that not only the bumper is damaged--part of the body directly below the tail light is bent in a bit too... anyone with something similar happen have any advice as to what to do next?

WOW such horrible luck. Got into a small accident yesterday (was not my fault this time), and now there's a small crack on the front bumper, paint scratches, and the housing for the turn signal is gone. :impatient

Oopsie.

If you can live with the damage for a little while, keep an eye on both eBay and the Marketplace - even if it's not the right color, it can be primed and repainted. They come up in both places occassionally. But it definitely looks like it needs to be replaced.

*Maybe* PDR can get the dent out. They can look at it and tell you for sure.

How much for prime and paint? I've been looking on eBay since the accident, but no look on finding the aero bumpers, and I definitely don't want to settle because I just love the way the aero kit looks.

What's PDR?

Paintless dent removal. That dent may just be too close to the edge there for it...but I'm not really sure what's under the bumper cover, so it may be possible.

PDR is way cheaper than a normal repair, when it's possible. And they'll give you a free estimate and tell you whether or not it can be done.

Sorry about you bad luck. Your insurance should take care of everything and that's what you pay those high rates for. Some days you eat the bear and some days the bear eats you!!

Definitely *not* a dent that can be repaired by PDR. PDR is only practical when there is no damage to the paint (hail damage, door dings, other minor indentations).

As far as an insurance claim, depends on your Collision deductible and what kind of driving record you have. Talk to your agent or service center (for those companies that don't employ an agency force) for guidance.

I have a simmilar dent under my rear tail light (someone backed into me at school) I have left it there for 2 reasons:

1. I was told PDR can not work in that location due to the bends in the metal and the strength of the steel in that location.

2. I am the only one who can see it when you are not looking for it.

Yes, thanks! I tried to go for something unique (opposite of blacking-out)!

I'm still waiting for an email from MINI Guru@ Way Motor Works for a price quote on the rear aero bumper with shipping.
