11,400 Mile Roadtrip

I picked up my Mini in Portland Oregon on July 2, 2007, I then proceeded on an 11400 mile roadtrip through Canada and the US. I visited 5 provinces and 11 states and arrived in Arizona on Sept 18th.

I see a lot of posts on this site with people complaining of problems with their Minis. Well after 11K miles I am happy to report, NONE... OK OK 1, it goes to fast sometimes as a member of the Ohio State Patrol reminded me. Other than that, and a rock chip in the windshield my Mini, The DB Cooper, preformed flawlessly and was a real pleasure to drive...

I met three people in parking lots that just wanted to check out my Mini and sit in it. I have had lots of new cars and I have never had that experiance before.

Take a look at my Picasa site for some photos of my trip.

Welcome to NAM, Dawger!

Sounds like you had a fun trip. I traded my 2002 Cooper in on Wicked Wanda, my 2003 MCS, on April 4, 2003 and left a week later on April 11, for my first annual springtime road trip. I drove 10+K miles through 22 states and attended the first Dragon Run. I got home May 24-ish, unpacked, did laundry, and the next day, I drove from my home in Los Angeles up to Sacramento and then onto Ferndale in NorCal to attend a fundraising concert.

I love taking huge cross-country road trips in my MINI every spring!

I had a great SHORT 3,500 mile drive from Minnesota to Philly and back last month, what a great trip! There was nerry a rattle the entire way even with the OEM runflats on, and Philly does have some awesome pot hole trails they pass off as roads!

The only rattle I confess was from the Yeungling beer cases in the back we came home with.

The allegheny mountains went by so easily I really didn't notice we were climbing, although two weeks later in our SUV we noticed them in a big way... where the h*** did these hills come from I says to myself. (I'm talking about the Liggoneer hill outside of Pittsburgh on the turnpike.)

All said and done, what a fun drive- I was sorry to have to stop. 11,000 miles and counting now, with not a single problem... touch wood!

11K miles and only 11 States?? I guess those Provinces will eat up the KMs...
Congrats on the MINI and the road trip!
I bought mine in VA and drove it to CA in 2005. Had the same experience in parking lots and gas stations - funny that many folks in the flyover States had never seen one before even when they had been out for three years!

I don't know about the other "flyover states", but here in Kansas there is a thriving community of MINIs, we'll have 38 cars at a local shine and show tomorrow, I'll post a pic after the show to prove it!

Sounds like a wonderful trip!

Someday....around retirement age no doubt, Mike and I will pack both MINIs and embark on a looooong drive around the US and Canada.

Those Ohio state troopers are such sweethearts! They've given me a similar reminder on a number of occasions. (And that's the #1 reason I'll be getting a MC, and not the MCS.)
