not made in Asia.
Wow! I am away for a few weeks and all hell breaks loose!
I remember it well because I was really interested in these. But, I was a little pissed that M7 was not complying with the Country Of Origin Law which requires that the product be labeled with the country of origin.
It was the first Saturday of the month, I think July, at the Coogies beakfast run on PCH in Malibu. I and some other people were standing in front of Peter's **** yellow '07 Cooper S. Peter gave me one of his coilovers to hold and look at. I noticed right away the poor build and material quailty. The treads were burred, the finish was uneven with silver showing through the black in some places, the mount had 2 tiny, poor quality welds holding it on, and I could barely feel the detents in the adjuster. My exact words to Peter were, "where are these things made?" I don't remember his first exact answer. I was something like, "I can not divulge that information." Then, someone standing around asked a question, but I can't remember the question. Then, someone else said something at about the same time as the last question, so I really didn't get what either person said. Then, Peter's exact words were, "the only thing I can tell you", and he said it as if he was doing us a big favor, "is they are not made in Asia." I believe he said that because someone mentioned Asia. Then someone said something, I don't remember what. then Peter said something to the effect that, "we looked into sourcing them from Asia but the quality was not good enough." I don't remember his exact words on the last quote.
I think it is really a shame. If he would have told us from the get go where these were made, I would have bought them. They are pretty inexpensive, so if I had a problem with one or two I could get them fixed, and they have all the features that I am looking for. The only thing I am worried about is their quality and longevity. But, Peter lied to us! But, no other coilovers have all the features I am looking for. So for now my Cooper S has OEM suspension and I don't know what to do about it. And that sucks!

Save up a bit longer and go with the CROSS Competition Coilovers. You WILL NOT be disappointed. It's basically stock ride quality on RAILS. I bought mine from Jan at Revolution MINI. Let him know I sent ya
.
If you don't want to spend that much, the Megan's are great, i've heard they're a bit bouncy though.

What concerns me here is that the OP first blasts the quality of the coil-overs but then notes he would hvave bought them anyway if not lied to (about the Asian manufacture). While I wouldn't buy from someoen who lied to me, is not the relevant question whther or not the product is a quality product, not where it comes from?
LOL

Interesting
Got a PM from Peter:
I'm sure you' feel all important posting that drivel....(no one cares).
We sell all we can bring in because they are as good as I said. Go back to your friends at Mininuts, I'm sure they will feel sorry for you.....

I guess he thinks this whole thing is funny.

Must we go through this again? Yes, it is know all the information requested was not given out. Yes, we've been over it many many times.
Also, if you do not hold a B.S. in engineering focusing on strength of materials, manufacturing processes, and a vast amount of experience in the design of coil-overs you have no right to be commenting on the quality simply by holding them.
I'm really getting tired of these m7 threads "the build quality looks bad so I don't think it will be very good, but I've never owned anything like it, but it's my point of view." It's like saying "I think crystals can cure cancer, I don't have any knowledge of cancer or crystals, but it's my point of view." Move on already.

I think the he/she's talking about the dampening. Most coilovers require the suspension to be dropped in the rear, or an adjuster cable to be snaked into the cabin to adjust dampening. Height I would think is only adjustable when jacking the car up and turning the little rings.

This is just another ploy by the MININUTS to discredit Peter and M7. You can read their not-so-secret thread here: http://www.mininuts.com/forum/index....2&min=0&num=15
