Conflicts with two HUs

Thinking of installing a HU in the "secret space" above the glove compartment in my 07 MCS. Looks like the HU with XM and iPod integration will be about half of what my MINI dealer wants if and when they can update the standard HU.

Here is my question...am I looking at having any conflicts between the two HUs? I'm concerned there might be some conflict because some of the controls on the oem HU have double duty.

Think a relay switch would do the trick without adding conflicts.

If you want to add a stereo like you suggested I'd keep it completely seperate from the regular radio. Hook amps and your speakers to the aftermarket making the stock one basically useless for radio functions.

Like he said! Keep it separate and you'll be fine!

I had tossed this idea up in the air too. I came up with this:
Maybe keeping the 2 stereos seperate is a good thing, but they can be hooked up together... You can use a media center changer to choose your outputs from either stereo and hook those directly into your amp... that's just me though.

or

I've got an aftermarket DVD player, with tiny little built in screen, that I'm going to install over there. It's got a seperate remote, and it plays MP3s, so I'm just goint to wire it into the aux connection on the stock unit and use it as a music keg.

Not quite as nice an interface as the stock CD changer, but I figure 1 DVD worth of MP3s is as much music as the stock changer would have held, at 1/8 the cost.
