Gymkhana from what i understand are the time trial races that started in Japan and is partly responsible for the start of the drifting scene...? but literally i think its just a sporting event of some kind to test the skills of the competitors, maybe

I think gyMINIkhana is prolly just a play on words for the NAMers here...
As per my definition above, a gyMINIkhana could be a contest to see who has a better show car, faster track car...I dunno. Its really early and i don't want to be at work right now . But obviously I'm being pretty productive

The first gymkhana I've heard of was with PCA in the 50s... it was a series of events for drivers (and cars) such as autocross, road-rally, reversing competitions...

Its basically a car-olympics.

Happy Motoring!

Oop. I was thinking it was Jiminy Cricket's distant cousin from the Orient - Gymini Khana.

LOL!!!

jakay11 is correct. it's more for RWD cars concentrating on car/drift control at lowspeeds. think of it as "driftcross"

Gymkhana is what a kind autocrossing is known as in the UK, and parts of Europe. Goes waaay back. Usually done on grassy areas, sometimes including hills.

Originally, it is a term for an equestrian event of horsemanship.

A Gymkhana is a horse riding event - timed pole racing and barrel racing. Or from Wikipedia:

Gymkhana (derived from the Urdu, Hindi or Hindustani languages) word for "racket court"[1]) is an Indian term which originally referred to a place where sporting events take place and referred to any of various meets at which contests were held to test the skill of the competitors.

Assume Gyminikhana is timed races with minis!

Correct. Gymkhana commonly used term in PCA from the 1950s. In the 1960s autocross. Today, gimmick rally.

"Gyminikhana" is currently used by Pittstop MINI Club for their event which will be held in October.

I used to participate in gymkhanas in the early 70's in my SAAB Sonett in St. Louis. At that time they were like a small-scale autocross in a parking lot, with one gate in reverse. Lots of fun and the Sonett was unbeatable in its class. No MINIs then!

So, a "real" gymkhana (with maybe a reverse gate, and something involving raw eggs) might be, umm, interesting? What about maybe a reverse 180 contest? Just thinking out loud here...
