MINI Configurator Now Showing 2008 Pricing!

EDIT: Please see the following post for updated information:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1750554&postcount=66

Apparently the pricing updates were a mistake made by MINI USA in their Configurator.

Hi all,

Well, it looks like I was correct (for the most part anyway) with the pricing details I outlined in this post:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=111681

The online MINI Configurator is now showing the expected (2008???) price increases for the R56. The most stunning increase (at least for me) is the heated seats. As a stand-alone option, they went up from $270 to a whopping $500! The Cold Weather Package also moved from $300 to $500, but it now includes the power folding mirrors making it a great deal (the power folding mirrors as a stand-alone option also increased to $500).

I'm very glad that I didn't wait to order my MINI as my spec is now $1,000 MORE for the EXACT same car. Wow!

Your results may differ depending upon the options you've choosen.

My car would have been 150 more. All I had that was effected the price increase was the Cold Weather Package (but Powerfold is something that would have been sweet) as they decreased the price of Xenons by 50 bucks.

Curses! How long until the dealer closes?

Too bad I haven't made up my mind on options and color. I'll just have to order everything I want and hope for a windfall.

I did notice the $500 increase in the base price even though it still showed $21,200 in the configurator (MCS)...the increase shows up at the "total". The price increase for the heated seats was suprising as well, and I guess you'd end up getting the CW package since the folding mirror/washer jets would essentially be free. Most of the other options stayed the same price I think (bluetooth now $650 from $500? and armrest now $250)

Here some other price increases I noticed:

Metallic paint $450 up to $500
Chrome Line $200 up to $250
Center Arm Rest $200 up to $250
17" Wheels up by $150

It looks like MINI is really pushing the packages as they didn't change price whereas most of the stand-alone options did. Making the packages a much better deal.

As kreative pointed out, the base price appears to have increased by $500 while the destination charge has stayed the same (at $650).

Looks like the Cooper base price went up by $300.

The change in the cold weather package must be so they only have to carry two versions of the mirrors (regular or heated/powerfold) vs three (regular, heated, heated/powerfold). The price of the heated seats alone went from $270->$500! And the heated powerfold mirrors are also $500, so I can't see any reason why anyone would ever order either separately.

I can understand the push for packages from a factory standpoint. Easy to have cars needing A, B, C and D (if A-D equal the packages) rather than A, B, F, M, V (if letters equal individual options) installed.

Just price increases as far as I can tell. It doesn't mention 2008 anywhere that I can see.

It also doesn't reference the USB port anywhere either. Maybe it's not going to come to the US??? They probably want us to pay for the iPod adapter instead.

No Office Maven.. here's my exchange with MINI Canada..

Me:
I have reviewed the upcoming changes from the MINI plant as of August 2007. This from a BMW / MINI press release.

It states that there will be a USB input for those customers who ordered the Bluetooth option.

My question is: Will this be available in Canada?

Thank you in advance.

MINI Canada:
September 2007 marks the beginning of the model year 2008 MINIs for the rest of the world. Model Year 2008 MINIs in the U.S. and Canada will actually be available later at the end of 2007 or beginning of 2008.

Unfortunately, the press release you are referring to concerns European vehicles. We do confirm however that the USB input will come with the Bluetooth option.

That's not possible seeing as there appears to be a $500 base price hike. Thus, even a bare bones MCS will be $500 more.

Pound Sterling HAMMERING the dollar (not helping)

This "price increase" probably has MUCH to do with the pound/dollar ratio, too.
Let me explain it this way, long term. This trend shows no sign of slacking off. I don't want to go political here, but I can't see how it won't cost more as more months/years go by, given the "US situation", both domestic and foreign. That said...
When I bought and paid for my Grinnall Scorpion (a box of parts that I did final assembly on) back around 2000, my total cost with shipping, tax, license and insurance ran around $21k-$22k. I still have all those reciepts. Of that cost, about $3500 was spent stateside for the wrecked K bike that donated it's drivetrain and a few other goodies. Today that same machine (Grinnall Scorpion) would cost approximately $30k. Grinnall's prices in pounds sterling didn't change much, if at all. The ratio was around 1.7/1 as I recall. Now it's 2.1/1.
I would bet good money that a year from now, it will be a lot worse for USA buyers due to this ratio continuing to escalate in favor of the pound sterling.
www.grinnallcars.com - Grinnall S3 is what I have...2f1r.

so true.. the euro is almost $1.40 US now.. and when it was $1.32, all hell broke loose. now - no one (in the media anyway) seems to be following this story.

US customers will have to face price increases, as the dollar is so low now that economies of sale still can't keep the price static.

Do tell why a Cooper in the UK or EU costs significantly less than one in the US? (rhetorical - no answer required)..

Here in Canada a Cooper S base is $30,600!! And a US$ here is worth only $1.04 Cad.

so.. if you can get an '07 (US custies) get one ASAP!!!

you won't regret it!

WOW this definitely make me glad I didn't wait! My week 35 build (which I'm picking up this coming Saturday) would have been 700 bucks more, GEEZ. Although I must admit the power folding mirrors would be pretty cool, that premium is insane.

I'll give you an answer anyway because the question isn't correct. MINIs cost significantly MORE in the UK than they do here.

We are lucky that MINI does not charge us according to the exchange rate.

A coopers BASE price is 13k pounds. The S is 16k pounds. Now imagine if we paid the same price using a 2.1 exchange rate....

So, waiting to save money on the USB connection over the iPod Integration would have been a very bad idea.

Just a passing thought....why should Minis be any differant than any other product, price increases is nothing new. If not......then I could still by a new Chev SS for only $4k as I did for my graduation present.

Well, this pretty much sucks. Here I am trying to save to purchase one and they raise the bar! I'm looking at around $700 more! Boo!
