Junky STOCK Bonnet stripes

My 2006 MCS JCW has Pure Silver Bonnet stripes that have what appear to be water spots but can not be removed by a clay bar after intense therapy does anyone think that MINI will cover new stripes or has anyone allready had mini replace theirs. It keeps my MINI at a 9 when it could be a 10. I hope I am not a lone wolf with my experience and somebody has had better luck with stripe replacement. Thank you in advance for any help.

I'm in the same boat. I've got white stripes on my '04 MCS, and it has developed stains too.

I read on another post somewhere (not sure if it was here or mini2) that MINI will cover these under warranty if they were the factory-applied bonnet stripes.

If I didn't live in Alaska, I would have taken mine to the dealer to have them replaced as well as some other minor issues resolved while it's still under warranty.

You might want to bring your JCW to the dealer if you have one nearby and see if there's anything they can do for you.

i took a close look at those stripes B4 i bought, and quickly opted for a solid-color mini. they are stick-on tape. very tacky (pun intended).

i'd take 'em off and spring for custom paint.

chad- let the dealer take a look. if they won't replace it, use some
ScratchX and polish the stains out.

wax afterwards.

if they still look like crap, bite the bullet and get new stripes.

When I picked up my used MCS, I had the dealer pull off my stripes because they were in bad shape. I also like the look of my Mini all nekkid without 'em...

Although I don't have the stock bonnet stripes but some aftermarket ones I have noticed some discoloration from time to time. Not to bad on the bonnet but on the on the boot I seem to get some small black spots either from the road or the exhaust. Anyway when the clay bar dosn't seem to work I use a real mild rubbing compound (by hand) which has worked real well for me. What I have been using is KIT SCRATCH OUT.

It dose states "safe for clear coat". In fact I just did the entire car recently and finished up with clay bar than two coats of wax. It looks new again. By the way it is an 2003 MCS. Chili Red/White. It might work for you. Good Luck.

I have an RG/S '06 Cooper with factory silver bonnet stripes (the "V") that have developed significant discoloration. My co-pilot is on my case to get them cleaned or replaced, so it sounds like I'm off to the dealer to negotiate. Thanks to all for the discussion thread and the potential solution.

Try a Mr. Clean magic erraser to them. I have the stock white ones on my BRG, and they were yellow/gray stains all over and they looked so nasty and ugly and the magic eraser took them all away.

I'm guessing there are no issues with the black stripes, just the white.

As I am quite familiar with the classic minis I will put a comment here on the new MINIs stripes. On the classic version the silver stripes always discolored, would find an appearance of water spots on them, I sometimes thought it was when water droplets sat on them in the sun and they burned in a lighter shade. Quite annoying and the only way to fix was to replace the stripes. Some of the guys on the message boards for classics made them out of better quality material than the factory supplied ones. Peter

Hmm. Yellow / Gray stains? Mine are like water marks on the white stripes. I can't seem to even clear ANY of it off. I don't want to remove the stripes as I love them to bits!

Same Problem with Silver Stripe

We have the same problem with the silver V stripe on our Royal Grey and Silver 2006 MCS. Has anyone been successful at having the dealer replace the stripe under warranty.

Our MCS has the clear bar applied over the lower part of the stripe which makes replacement a bit more difficult, and costly but the exposed stripe looks horrible.
