Line Out for Rear Wire Harness?
I found this wiring harness in the rear passenger well that I believe is for the factory amp. I have the standard stereo in the Cooper S, and would like to add an amp via Line out converter. Can someone help me identify the wiring if I am correct?
Also, I have a Basslink2 that accept speaker level or line level inputs. would one be preferable to the other? The speaker level input to the amp looks like a square, where can I find a harness to adapt if the is the appropriate route? Thanks!

There are a few detailed threads on this upgrade you'll want to find. What I do know off the top of my head is the head unit does not have line outs. That harness is speaker level. when the hifi option is selected, the boost amp they put in that compartment you refer to has speaker level inputs for that harness, which it converts to line level and reamplifies.
I knew that the HU did not have line outs, but I thought it would be far easier to tap wires already in the right location than to run wire behind the dash. On my last car, I rewired the factory harness to run through a LOC and rna RCA to the back of the car. I am no expert, and have only run RCA in the past, so I don't know if there are advantages to running speaker level input to the amp.
Thanks for the response!
This isn't a chart, but a list of wire colors might be useful:

I'm REALLY suprised somebody hasn't made a "T" wire harness connector for the factory amp connector???
Does anyone know what brand/type connector is back there? It would be SO EASY for somebody to make a T connector. We could then simply unplug the built in amp, plug in the T, plug the amp back into the T, and now have documented wires at hand to use (+/- each speaker and +/-12v switched Power).
Why hasn't one of the vendors done that??

I'm no expert on it though, and was hoping to get some insight from the community at large. Any help on finding the male and female connectors would be awesome, too. I'm checking McMaster-Carr now, and I'll try RealOEM; any other suggestions?
Those wires are not for the hifi amp. First they are on the wrong side. Second if you don't have the HiFi system the amp and wires just won't be present.

Forty,
I just realized, you are on the WRONG SIDE!! The amp and it's connector are on the DRIVERS SIDE. Not sure what that white connecor is, but my hifi amp is on the passenger side. Check out this thread, around page 2 has all the pinouts and wire colors for the amp connector and what each is. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t=95211&page=2

Anywhoozle, I have the hifi, and sombody needs to make me a T connector.
Nope, no wires. Even the carpeted side piece is different if you have the hifi or not. If you don't have the hifi the access hole is both inset several inches and it's much smaller than if you have the hifi.
Thanks for the info! Any idea what those wires are for then?
I think I might be better off tapping the 2 rear speakers for a speaker level input to the amp, if I don't have easy access to a separate wire harness.

What about part of the Sirius or HD Radio options? I vaguely remember reading or seeing a picture denoting that the Sirius or HD radio stuff goes on the passenger side.

I have the Sirius option in my car, the one from the pictures at the top...
Birdman,
Great post with the wiring diagrams/pinouts/colour codes. Do you happen to know if there's a similar reference for the first-generation cars?
I'm basically trying to find out the colours of the eight speaker wires coming out of the "Boost" head unit, and I'd also like to find out if those colours are the same where the harness enters the Harman/Kardon amp.

Motor, wow, interesting they only run the wires for the hifi. They really do customize each car huh?
Scott,
Thanks, but I cna't take credit for any of that, I just copied and consolidated it from several different posts in that thread I posted the link to. Sorry, I know nothing about the 1st gen mini's. Isn't the R56 the first MINI made???

The was no amp wiring in my MINI after all. I went ahead and tapped the harnesses for the 6x9's to run speaker level inputs to the Basslink. I was disappointed to see the left rear speaker had a hole in it! It'll give me an excuse to buy new ones, I guess. Install was fun!
