Co Springs Area Drive

If anyone would like to do a drive in the Co Spgs area this weekend, post here. I'm fairly new to the area still, and don't know where we would go, but lets figure something out.

I'm up for it but probably won't get a chance unless it's next weekend.

24 is a nice little drive to the Wines of Colorado store. They serve food there too. Great buffalo burgers and you can pick your bottle of wine up and take it with you to the dining area. A few twisties will get you there in no time.

I would avoid US 24 this weekend unless you enjoy following RVs. A really nice ride is to go to Cripple Creek via Teller County 1, the speed limit in most places is only 35, but all the twists and turns makes it a real blast. Next weekend would be good for us and would like to meet more of the contingment in the Springs area.
On a side note, Woodland Park will be hosting the "Cruise above the clouds" Sep 15-16. I considering entering the Mini as the show is open to all cars, would be cool to have some other Minis represent.

If you let Rick Gonzales (pauhana) know, he can put it on the calendar and you might get a few more folks for your ride.

Just a note, Sept. 15 & 16th is also the English Motoring Conclave in Denver. A ride on Saturday & show on Sunday for all English marques.

We're up for Sept. 8th for a lunch run. Just need enough notice so I can make sure I'm home.

A nice ride from Colorado Springs is

in either direction:
  • CS
  • Penrose
  • Victor
  • Cripple Creek
  • Divide
  • Woodland Park
  • CS
It is a nice afternoon trip and very curvy in parts. Check it out.

Is this supposed the be happening this weekend; saturday 8th or sunday 9th?

If so, Christine and I are in for a run; we were thinking of spending a day down there anyhow; we might just have to make it two if there's a run happening. Let us know; the weekend is creeping up rather fast.

Well, starting at eleven or noon on saturday wouldn't be bad. That gives a denver driver like me the chance to get down there without getting up before the sun.

Also it's easy to drive for an hour or two somewhere and drop in for a late lunch; then motor on again.

Were there any suggestions for the route? I see Jonathan's list above, but without mapping the lot out I don't know what is where (which I don't have time for). Any help from the locals on a suggested route?

Like Brihyanna said in the first post, "lets figure something out".

Jonathan's suggested route looks like this:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...UTF8&z=10&om=1http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...UTF8&z=10&om=1

Not sure how to get the pic of the map on here. Looks like a nice drive, though I might take off at the Florrisant Fossil Beds to take a look around there.

Such a route wouldn't be too bad at all, thanks for throwing the map together Bri. If we do go this route and we do happen to be in Canon City between 10 am and 6 pm, I can suggest a stop too. The tasting room at the Holy Cross Abbey (www.abbeywinery.com) is an option and they make some good stuff.

I think that this sounds like a good idea and a viable route to follow. Can anyone suggest food along the route? The only place I can think of is a 50s place in Canon City called Big Daddy's Diner. The food wasn't bad as I recall.

Anyone else?

We're game for whatever. Where would we meet? I'd suggest Garden of the Gods visitor center and run though Garden of the Gods on our way down to 24.

Anyone have times and such? I'm trying to work this run in around work.

Here's another route for the people from Denver that don't want to drive further south.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=e...34717&z=9&om=1

We'd be up for either route.

I think I like the other route better nthwolf, but we plan on being in the springs for the weekend, so it seems more appropriate.

I think meeting somewhere central and easy around eleven or noon might work well, I'm ok for garden of the gods, but open to any suggestion.

Are we only talking three cars or are there more folks thinking of coming along? Mike (intercoolest) are you still floating around?

I haven't been to Garden of the Gods yet, so meeting there is good for me.
Who's in?!

So, 11am, Garden of the Gods, http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...UTF8&z=10&om=1

Sound good? Food and drink in Canon City?
I'm up for anything.

11am it is. I'll have my radio on as well, so we'll hook up in the Garden of the Gods.

See you tomorrow!

Feel free to invite any other MINI folks you know as well. The more the merrier!

What a great time; thanks guys for a great day of motoring and hanging out.

We ended up un Phantom Canyon at some point... needless to say there's about 20 miles of unpaved and quite rickety roads. When we were done we'd acquired a little dirt.

Here's a shot of Intercoolest as soon as we got back onto pavement.

For my photos of the day visit my photobucket site. Christine is due credit for all in motion shots, so kudos to her for capturing us offroad MINIs in action.

I don't remember where all we drove but the first few pics are from Garden of the Gods, followed by our off road experience, then the aftershock and a few experimental nighttime photos. Big thanks to Brihyanna for bringing us together.

Definitely a fun day. Very long day but fun. We were wiped by the time we got back home. Thanks go out to Brihyanna for getting us together.

I'll post pics as soon as I get them off the camera. Not as many shots as Japic though. I was trying to keep up with you guys too much to take pics.

Sure glad I went & thankful my wife didn't! She would not have liked our "aggressive driving" (code for haulin A__).

Thanks Brihyanna for getting us out motoring!
