18x8.5 - Need Help. Anyone Done It?
18x8.5 - Need Help. Anyone Done It?
I'm looking to replace my newly acquired SSR Comps with new wheels. The wheels I'm looking at used to be controversial back in the day but now everyone loves them and the car they were on. Anyways, these come in an 18x8.5 with an ET30. Doing some simple math I'll have about 1/4" less clearance from the strut, which means I'll have to measure my current setup to see how close I'll be cutting it. I'm willing to rock as low as an ET25 with stretched tires, likely a 215/40/18. As per the signature, I'm dropped on H-Sports and hoping to drop it on coils in the long run if I were to run this setup.
Please, don't chime in unless you know what you're talking about. I don't care to read any negative posts about why the hell I would want to run such a wide wheel or a stretched tire or that aggressive of an offset or blah blah blah. We all have different tastes and I just don't care to hear all the hating NAM has to offer.
Thanks in Advance.

So this leaves me to go with either the same wheel (Keskin KT4) in a 17x8 ET30/35 or 18x8 Volk CE28N with spacers at ET35-37
You already know where I stand on this one....I would absolutely love to see you do it cause those numbers are crazy
But i'm not sure if you could pull it off without rubbing like crazy.
I think you would be alright on the inside...but certainly getting close to the strut. Konky said that his 17x7.5 et40's were getting extremely close to his KWs (in case they are skinnier than stock). I do think you would be alright on that end though........i doubt you could add much more backspacing.
Your problem arises on the outside though. My measurements say that you would be poking 24mm past the fender. That's close to a full inch. On 15's and 16's that definitely do-able with smaller-than-stock tire diameters and some tire stretch. Something that you have to think about with the bigger sizes 17+ is that they already pose a problem with rubbing without agressive offsets due to their size and that their tires must be low profile. On the 18's the profile is tiny, so stretching doesnt gain you much added room. You can stretch a 195/45/15 on a 15x8.5 with no problem.....you could not fit any kind of 205 or 195 on an 18x8.5 because the small sidewall. You could probably poke 18's half an inch and pull it off with the correct tire....but a whole inch is a lot for an 18 to be poking.
The best you can do is measure you SSR's now.....and then plug it into wheel calculators.
My overall feeling is that you could step it down to 18x8 or step down in diameter and go with 17x9 or 17x8.5 and have a better chance fitting it.
