Anyone Get Free Tint From Dealer?

As the title says I'm curious as to whether anyone got the dealers to tint their windows for free?

I'm going to email my MA tomorrow asking them. So I would like to know what I'm up against.

Thanks.

Most are lucky for floor mats and a few less expensive goodies. But is worth a try, good luck.

I don't know if any of the dealers do window tinting themselves. They may just contract out to third parties in which case - "good luck".

I got free tinting from my dealer because of the CEL issue and the leaky washer nozzles

I was told that accessories are separate from the sales department, so accessories can't be negotiated as part of the sale itself. I was offered a discount on some accessories by the accessories department itself, but typically you can get the same quality tint from a tint shop for about $100 less than through a MINI dealer.

I got it for free but only because the shop that the dealer sent the car to do the clear bra tinted the windows instead of doing the bra install. Don't know it the dealer paid them for the tint or not but I didn't pay for it.

I managed to get an outdoor car cover, floor mats, tank of gas, hat, cards and a lanyard, didnt ask about window tinting, I have a convertible so I figure if the entire top is open, tinting the windows wont do a whole lot

Well, I didn't get the floor mats or the tank of gas thrown in for free until I got home and complained about being charged an extra $175 over invoice, even though they advertise on their website as selling at suggested retail price.

They argued that I got the mats and gas and detailing for that price. I said fine, but why wasn't I given the option of agreeing to it or not. I said it was explained to me as a mandatory fee, yet your website even made a joke about how other dealers "jack the price up because these babies are hard to come by," but that Rasmussen has a longstanding policy to sell at MSRP.

I told them it seemed misleading. In the end they refunded the charge. Since then, they have updated their website to list the charge and explain what it's for. I applaud them for that. That way, it's full disclosure, even if they're still selling above MSRP.

I managed to talk down the price of the car a little, plus tinted windows, front and rear carpet floor mats, 2 key chains, a few t-shirts, a couple of hats, and a full tank of gas. They also threw in a set of lock nuts. My understanding is that they can't do a whole lot about the price of the car but they have quite a bit of flexibility with stuff sold and done at the dealership. Worth trying anyway. Window tint is sort of given here in Texas, though. Most dealers will throw that in to the deal for free.

^^ im in houston. Who did you purchase your mini from? I ordered mine and awaiting transport. I plan on negotiating on accessories when it is delivered cause I will not sign anything unless I get some incentives thrown my way.

I just got tinted at my local shop. They did an awesome job with 20% tint on entire car minus windscree. Total cost $125

Did you sign an order sheet with a non refundable deposit? That sounds like you don't want to live up to your end of the contract.

I had originally talked to the MINI dealership in the Woodlands, but we didn't really get along very well. So I ordered mine at Momentum MINI (on the Southwest Fwy). I walked in with the specs printout from the website, sat down with a sales person and built the same thing on their computer. We negotiated the price of the car and the extras before finalizing the order (and I asked for everything in writing) -- but also I agree with you about getting what you want at least before taking possession of the car. I remember when MINIs were selling for several hundred over invoice but I think things are a bit different now. At least in our area. They seem to have more flexibility with the prices.

How did you do this? Is it something they just offered, or did you have to "push" them? It appears I'm having the CEL "issue" as well. TWO days after delivery. My problem is the dealership is 2 hours away. Just talked to the SA and he said roadside assistance will pick up my car, take it to them, they'll fix it, and have it back to me the same day. Should I ask for more?

Thanks!

they just offered it to me (Mini Momentum @ Houston) I had my CEL issue with only 50 miles so it was pretty annoying to have to go back and forth from the dealer so many times

What's CEL issue? Didn't have any luck with a search.

I told my MA that if he would tint the windows and sunroof, I would let MINI do the financing. Since MINI was actually competitive on their rate, I came out ahead. They did it without a problem. Plus, I didn't have to deal with a bank and the added paperwork or have to go get someone else do the tinting. I also now have MINI backing my tint if it bubbles during the warranty.

My deposit was clearly defined as being completely refundable even if I decided not to buy the car at delivery.

The contract allowed the dealer to take possession of the car and sell it if I didn't make arrangements to pay for it and pick it up within three days after they notified me it was ready. Even in that case, I would have received my entire $1,000 back.
