07 cooper water leak--help!

i have a 07 mini cooper and ive been having problems with water leaking into my mini when it rains. it seems that rain water is somehow getting into my car when it rains a substantial amount and its pooling in my roof liner and when i drive my car the water comes out around the black seal of my sunroof into the interior of my car. you can see where the water is in the roof liner becasue it leaks through and saturates the liner. im not leaving my sunroof open or cracked--the only thing i can think of would be bad seals around the car or sunroof--but the mechanics cant seem to pinpoint where its coming in. anyone else having problems like this?

I'm not... but I would be at the dealer right away (preferably while the headliner is still wet) and have them figure it out. Its a new car, and its not your job to figure out what's wrong.

there are a few posts about leaky sunroofs, do a search for it and i'm sure you'll find it. I dont remember ever reading that they got it fixed, but i doubt they just let it leak.

kind of a odd idea for them to find out where the leak is coming from but they could bring the car through a car wash while a tech. guy is sitting in side with the roof lining removed to watch for leaking. like i said.....odd idea

but yah my 07' doesnt have this problem.

It could be that one of the drains for the sunroof is kinked and when it rains the water does not drain out. Usually, there are drains at each corner of the sunroof tray. These are clear plastic tubes that run behind the interior panels and drain out the bottom of the car. If these drains are kinked (if you car is still fairly new, it's likely it happened when they built the car) the water leaks out onto the headliner.

Actually the car wash idea is a great one, but the dealer may take offense at you telling them how to diagnose it......

There are 4 drains on the sunroof, very easy for one to plug up, have them checked by the dealer.

My only suggestion is that you make sure to keep good records of everything in case you need to initiate lemoning your MINI. I hope it doesn't get to that point, but check the laws in your state and keep all the paperwork from the dealership. Do NOT leave the dealership without a written receipt stating what they did. And you may find it a good idea to communicate with them via email, also, to have additional records. Good luck!

Give them (the dealer) the car ask them for a loaner and leave it there until they fix it.

Ths is completely unacceptable.

Failing that drive over to the local TV station and tell them your story.

i agree that this is unacceptable and i have been really frustrated with this situation. the last time it leaked, which wasnt long ago, i sent it to the dealer and they said they couldnt duplicate the problem so they sent it back to me. to further complicate the situation i am over 100 miles away from the nearest dealer. im just looking for a soultion on my own since the dealer cant figure it out...

On my 17 year old bimmer, I checked the water drain on the sunroof by putting some water around the rails with the sunroof open and made sure the water dripped down underneath the door sills. There are four drainage holes on mine. Front ones drain under the door sill behind the front wheels and the rear ones drain under the side....can't remember whether it was in front or behind the rear wheels..... If the drain hole(s) is blocked, it should be easy enough to detect. Have you already tried doing it?

Water is getting into my first generation Mini (R50), and shorting out the Digital Power SoundModul. I don't even have a sunroof.
