New tires - 205/55 vs. 205/50. Help!

I want to replace my OE 195/55-16 run-flats with Michelin Pilot Exalto All/Seasons for my 2004 MCS. The closest V-rated 16" sizes available are 205/55 and 205/50, the latter being considerably more expensive. Any good reason not to go with the 205/55? Speedometer error should be less than 2%.

I just replaced my OEM ruflats with 205-50-16s and they are soooo nice. I heartily recommend them. They ride sooo smoothly. Mine are Kumho ASX All Seasons.

I have those tires and I am running 205/50/16 and the ride is nice and I have plenty of grip when I drive it hard. If you check Tire Rack they yhave good prices.

I ordered 205/50s but got 205/55s and didn't realize it until a few weeks later when I had lowering springs installed (H-Sport). The 55s rub like crazy in the rear now. I'd say stick with the 50s (or lower) unless you're at stock height.

I'm running 215/50/16 Dunlop DZ101's on a lowered suspension and no issues (16x7 ET42)

Tire Rack has a Kumho AST for $56 in 205/50/16 in case you decide that the Michelin's aren't worth the premium price. As for 205/55/16, you'll get a little cushier ride (taller sidewall), a little worse acceleration (taller overall diameter and heavier weight), less crisp steering response (again due to the taller sidewall), and fewer miles on your car (less revolutions per mile, which will also make gas mileage compute to be a little worse).

If this were a Lincoln Towncar forum, I'd say go with the 55 series tire. Since it's a Mini forum, go with the 50 and enjoy the feeling of your car as God intended.
