I started to wave this morning
but, oops....I'm in a vanpool. Just a habit that has taken over. You can't see in the windows (thank goodness). Everyone else on the van was sleeping so no one notice me give a little wave to a car that couldn't see me and wouldn't understand even if they could. Hard to be blonde some days
+1 It has happened to me. Someone waves at me enthusiastically and I must assume they've got a Mini or MINI somewhere in their history. I always wave back.
I went from a Jeep Wranger and constantly doing the Jeep Wave to a Mini Cooper and so the wave just comes naturally.
Well, my Jeep wave is more two fingers casually lifted off the steering wheel as a subtle and macho courtesy "hello". The Mini wave is a little more Japanese tourist getting his picture taken at the Grand Canyon wave, open palm, fingers as far apart as they can get and frantic movement at the wrist.
And the determining factor, of course, it is not which car I'm in, but to which car I'm waving. So if I'm in the Mini and waving to a Jeep or in the Jeep waving to a Mini, the other driver must think I'm a freak.

I guess i'm not the only one. I was driving my mom's Truck for the day(she wanted to drive my mini and show it off to her friends <sigh>) and I saw about 3 Minis! 3! So I wave each of them not realizing i'm in the truck, 2 gave me the look but the last one waved back, but more like a half wave not knowing why waving back to complete stranger. Until then I realized is not the same when your in a different vehicle. Oh man, I'm never letting my Mini out of my sight again!!!

I am traveling on business this week in Houston and I have waved a 7 MINIs out of habit, on the plus side 4 waved back. Not bad, considering I am driving around in a rental Jeep Liberty. Boy, do I miss my MINI!!!
I wave back no matter who waves at me, so it's cool. I can't get with the Japanese tourist wave though, mine's more subtle... and yes, I've caught myself waving when I'm driving the VW Cabrio, or the MiniSupportVehicle...

Keep the faith... and go to MINI events and hang out with other people who are into the MINI.
The Mustang folks around here claim that two finger wave also. We've had the Jeep, now have the GT500 (in a Mustang body), and have a Mini on order. What wave is required of me?

today was exceptional
Went to lunch in Boulder with my wife, on the drive over another DS MINI was on Valmont in East Boulder (no wave), he appeared to be concentrating, perhaps a bad morning in the office.
Then wonder of wonders on the way back from lunch, first a OB/w MINI responded in kind to the frantic MINI wave, my wife chuckled.
Then before we could make the turn a CR/B MINI waved, we almost missed our wave. I imagine she was still in her wave to the OB/w when she saw our DS/w at the stop sign and had to continue her wave which was nice to see.
A little later a CR/w passed without a wave, another person returning to the office I suspect, perhaps dreading Friday afternoon in the office since the day in Colorado is perfect for some outside fun.
So it was exceptional, I saw 4 MINIs in a 7 mile radius of my lunch in Boulder, then I drove the back roads back to home, it was a relaxed fun little drive, six miles of twisties.
