Has anyone hardwired a radar detector into their R56 yet? I could sure use some DIY advice.

I just hard wired my Escort into mine last week. I have the remote button wiring adapter. The detector is just velcored to my dash in the left corner by the A pillar. Ran the wires down along the door and under the dash. Put the remote button on the side of the console just behind the shifter. Ran the wiring over to the fuse box and tapped into the Cig liter fuse I think. The hardest part was finding a place for the ground wire. Finally put it under a bolt on the bracket where the steering shaft goes though the firewall.

Thanks. However, I don't have the remote button setup for my Escort 8500 and I was hoping to mount the actual unit up high near the rearview mirror. Has anyone tried tapping into a power source up in the sunroof control/lighting area?

I tried to hardwire my V1 into the power near the rearview mirror with no luck. What I did was run the wire in the headliner over to the passanger door over the door around to the door sill then to the fuse box. The reason I went around the door was to aviod going down the front window pillar and the airbag in there.

if you undo the sunroof/moodlight controls and drop them down you can route your 12v line into the fat light purple w/blue stripe wire and run the cable out of the headliner behind the rearview mirror.

Don't worry about the detector staying on, it will shut off anywhere from 15-30 minutes after the car is off.

I would take some pics but it's really simple, just a flathead to gently pop off the faceplate of the control console, then 2 maybe 3 hex screws to drop the guts of the console and it's the purple/blue stripe wire (it is physically bigger in diameter than all the other wires in the cluster).

I'm trying to hardwire my system just the same way but every time I try to connect the ground to a metal of some sort, it doesn't work. When I connect it to the cigarette lighter (with power to the 12V cable) it works no problem... Any help? Thank you!
