Magnaflow Feedback

So I really love how my stock exhaust pops sometime when i take my foot off the gas. I'm super close to buying the Magnaflow system for my Cooper S just had some last questions. does the magnaflow kinda pop like that too?

And does anyone have any links to Mini CooperS Magnaflow sound clips except for youtube.com and the first thread on this forum which is all i could find so far?

Thanks,

Toby

The magnaflow has a great burble sound. I've had mine on for 60K miles and wouldn't have a Mini without it. I don't have any sound bytes but I recall their website had them.

As info incase you don't know...Magnaflow changed their design last fall...most/much of the feedback here relates to the original design. The original design was louder. The newer design is more tame and yet still sounds great and according to Magnaflow, it flows better too.

Your best bet to hear one would be to visit a local MINI gathering. They're pretty common so someone will most likely have one, and they do sound great IMHO.

since I know the guy who made the Magnaflow for the Mini here is his direct quotes. " the original design made the most hp and tq but was dropped for the new design because of cost to make the extra bends."

There you have it from the horses mouth

Doesn't the new design have more bends?
A nice "Y" for the split into two instead of the old "T", and a similar change for the tips? I haven't seen the new design yet in person, only pics....were there other changes made?

So, the cost wasn't in the extra bends

I am working on a clip right now that I just took and uploading it on youtube here for all to hear. However and again, mine would be the old original one, you know, the one that uhhm (clears throat),,,,produces more WHP.

EDITED.

The old one flows badly as Myself an Paul Webster found off here on his dyno, i now have a custom single box magnaflow, its a bit too loud but on the other hand sounds amazing, makes brilliant pop an crackles :D The dyno in a few weeks time will show if its made power. Car made 189WHP with exhaust in place, no back box, straight made 192WHP, obviously lost torque with no back pressure what so ever

I'm trying to follow you here. With the Magnaflow CB it made 189WHP. What did it make with the stock exhaust? Without the CB and a strait pipe it made 192WHP.

To say it flows badly is just wrong. With a strait pipe you will always see more HP but your TQ will go flat. You only made 3WHP with a strait pipe over the Magnaflow "muffled" CB system. A well designed CB is designed to limit the HP/TQ loss while maintaining a nice livable sound level..

With your single system you might get a little HP more but I bet you will loss TQ. I'm sure it's very load and not for everyone.

so how much of a difference is there in sound between the first system and the one for the 05 Cooper S now. I mean is it a noticable difference that you can hear or is there just a slight decibel change that you can only see if professionally measured? Will I be able to hear the difference? cuz I really love the sound of the exhaust that i see on all the videos which happens to be the older model Magnaflow system?

I the original. LOVE the sound. Much quiter with out the burble now that the turbo is in there to quiet it down, but I wouldn't go with another system, unless it was a one-off at this point.

Well I certainly won't argue with a horses mouth for fear of looking like another horse part.

I thought the marketing babble from Magnaflow when they came out with the new design was it flowed better/performed better...interesting. Thanks for passing along the inside scoop!

I still haven't gotten mine because now I'm saving for the RMW full-meal-deal version of the Magnaflow exhaust.

I have a Magnaflow on my 02 MCS. I love it! I drove a MCS with a Borla sport before I got the Magnaflow. I think they sound fairly similar, but, it was a very short and tame test drive of the Borla. My Magnaflow pops and burbles very nicely, albeit not quietly . I rode in a MCS with a Miltek and it was too quite for my taste. I'm very pleased with the Magnaflow. Nice quality, great sound and looks. It's even better since changing to an Ultrik CAI last month!

I asked Mike again today about it and he also said when they came out with the stamped Y in the back it helped cut the cost down on having to hole saw the pipes in. Time = Money

Sorry i have been away on holiday. My magnaflow was the original powerloop which as proved on the dyno was causing a problem on my car. The car was dyno`d with cat full catback then the catback minus the back box an it picked up HP, Paul even said he could hear it backing up on the dyno, plus why have Magnaflow changed the design, im sure the latest one which isnt available in the UK as of yet is superb

Had the Magnaflow (02 version) on my 05 MCSa but had to take it off after barely 2 days as my wife and I felt it was ridiculously loud - unbearable pottering around town especially between 1500-2000rpm, and especially moving up through the revs on the freeway.

Pops and burbles like a good'un though.

Way too loud for me and much louder than vid clips make it out to be.

Deffo not my cup of tea.
