R56 Deliverance!
Deliverance!

No, not the movie. Deliverance in the sense of "the action of being rescued or set free."
I took delivery on my 2007 R56 MCS yesterday and was rescued from the dreariness of driving my previous car. I picked it up on 07/07/07 from South Bay MINI (thanks Amanda). I wasn't able to start breaking it in until today due to another event I wanted to attend but this morning I decided to motor from L.A. up to Wrightwood, CA along CA-2, Angeles Crest Highway, a road with plenty of twisties. Unfortunately, the road was closed somewhere before Wrightwood so took a detour to check out Mt. Wilson. The Nav actually was trying to tell me the road to Wrightwood was closed but I'm not familiar with it yet so I didn't understand the message.
Even while obeying the break-in recommendations, this car is a blast to drive! I can't wait to do some more motoring and continue bonding with my MINI.
There are a few more pics in my gallery.

Excellent!
Enjoying from day 1 I see.
Wonderful pictures.
Just think what you can do once you have finished break in.
Sounds like you'd enjoy a High Performance Driving event or school.
The higher the level of driving skill you have the more you can do with your MINI whether in stock or modified form.
When you are ready, replace your runflats with some really good sticky non runflats. Probably 215/45-17 would work fine.
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 would be worth a look. Find other MINIs that have them and go for a test drive.

Thanks, everyone! It's great to finally join you as a MINI *owner* and to those of you still waiting, I hope you all get yours as soon as possible.
MINI Jackpot,
I do really like the *roof in body color* schemes but virtually all the MINI color combos are very nice. For me the color was one of the hardest decisions because I liked quite a few of them.
rattmobbins,
I wasn't really smitten by the crown spokes but they came with the sport package so I went with them. If I had it to do over now, I'd go with the 16" bridge spokes and get the LSD instead. I think the crown spokes are growing on me now.
minihune,
A driving school sounds like it would be well worth it. I'm just afraid of getting hooked and wanting to do track events.
I hadn't planned on doing that and that's why I passed on the LSD. Of course, my current tires are not broken in at all yet but today I felt a lot wandering in the lane on the freeways. I think it's because of the grooves in the road. As I recall, I also experienced that with new non-runflat tires on previous car.

Nice choice of roads. I live in the area (somewhat) and will give this one a try when I get my MINI (need to sell my truck first). There are plenty more twisty roads up here in the Santa Clarita Valley, give them a try!
Nice to see your DS/DS
Rover, nice first big drive, that drive was great to take in the late 60s and 70s too.
Great pictures of the MINI, I'm liking your wheels more and more, I may have to think on what I'm going to do for snow wheels in the next couple of months.
The wandering you feel is the grooves/ridges in the road. It is really picked up by the run-flats. It does let you know your driving a great car with Sporty tendencies.
