New owner needs advice on run flats...

Guys-

Just picked up a new Mellow Yellow MCS a couple of days ago. If I have one complaint about the car is the ride with the run flats.

Let me ask the forum alternative recommendations, here is what I am looking for.

I would like to stay with the same 205/45/17 set up but willing to go down to a 16" size.

I won't take the car to the track and don't really push it. Nice softer ride for city driving would be great. Thank you in advance!

regards-
Andy

I switched my Dunlop Sp 01 runflats out for Dunlop SP Sport MAXX non-runflats. The ride is much improved, as are trammeling, bump steer, and torque steer. Totally happy with them.

IMHO get rid uf the R/Fs or try and sell them. Check with Alex at the Tire Rack for his advice on a good replacement non R/F tire. I put on BFGoodrich
G Force and very pleased with them. I lived with the R/Fs for 24K and should have switched long before that.

I switched out the Dunlop r/f's for Dunlop Dirreza DZ101's. I have been very happy with them so far and the ride is so much smoother!

I'm in waiting for my Mini. I keep reading all these post about new owners trying to dump the run flats. I thought about trying to change my order because of it. Hubby says that because we ordered the Mini S we are out of luck. It comes with run flats. If this is such a issue why isn't there an option to order our set ups without the run flats?

anyone tired the Avon m550 a/s...review on tirerack looks promising.
I put the Pirelli P Zero nero M/s on 04 Cooper and was quite pleased.

No exact sizing for Pirellis for 17s...

I have 2 friends who run the Avons and like them very much.

Because, MCS does not come with a spare tire. so i guessing for safety reasons MINI loads them up with runflats. THis probably also might be a good consideration to think about too. what if you get a flat while driving and theres no spare? just a thought. i still have my runflats. saved me twice.

Some OEM runflats have been redesigned to offer better comfort. The ones for '07 are called "run on flats", I believe, and offer a much improved ride than the OEM runflats offered from '02-'06.

personally from what I hear about run flats I would rather just buy a can of compressed air and a tire patch kit and leave that in the boot

I could have sworn the 17" Crown-Spokes on the MCS do NOT include run flats, as the configurator described the choices on the sport package as...

17" Crown-Spoke (Performance)

17" Web-Spokes (Run Flat Performance)

This is one of the reasons I ordered the Crown-Spokes. Well, that and I prefer the way they look over the Web-Spokes. So am I missing something?
