Not so Hot Orange anymore - Wrecked it
Dear friends and fellow Mini lovers
I am forced to resign from this club. I crashed my HO a few nights ago and now having to say good bye to it forever. Not sure if I can come back to this website for awhile. I'm okay despite it tipping over. Good car it was....

Bummer. Looking at the front tires, it looks like you had fun while it lasted. Lesson learned.

Well, I guess you should just feel fortunate that there were no personal injuries -- especially with a lapsed insurance. Glad you're alright.
Rotating tires is overrated.

Wow, I'm really sorry to see this. But nothing is forever. You're here to tell us about the sad news. That's the good part!

You owned a Hot Orange Cabrio, so just because you've decided to sell the car doesn't mean you have to leave "the club". There are other former MINI owners here, as well as future owners. Feel free to stop in and chat.
You can always make more money. Being able to walk away without an injury is the most important thing. I just hope that nobody else was hurt.
If the frame is straight, you should be able to fix most of it yourself...
It looks like mostly body repair... Driver side looks like everything, including the door amd behind survived. Passenger side looks like some work with the door. I think if you can put on a salvaged hood with all the wiring and harnesses, and grab couple more parts, you should be able to fix it up with a paint job... The trickest thing could be getting the top to align and make sure you don't have a leak. But I think it's totally repairable and it'll be well worth your effort to do it yourself if you are going to pay for it out of your own pocket. I'd put in aero kit, and put a nice coat of pain with graphics and make it look custom.
It would be a wonderful experience to fix it. Not only because you'll get your mini back, but sometimes people need to realize how easy things break, and how much effort it takes to put it back. I've done tons of car repairs and I'd fix that in a heart beat.

I'm so sorry for your loss, and for the fact that seemingly tough times resulted in a lapse in your insurance coverage. In my youth there were rough roads, and I'd wonder...food or insurance, electricity or insurance, etc etc. I've been there.
Hang in there. Keep your chin up. As devestating as this must be right now, life has a way of turning around and working out for the best.
Best of luck to you.

It was another average dark and pleasant Friday California night. The thought against going out at all was too practical.... The approaching weekend was a busy one, 2 full days of photography gigs. With that - came the justification TO go out. "I'm stressed out, I need to see a great live music show", so Peak decided in favor of accepting the friend's invitation, and marched out into the evening.
The show was okay, the conversation was interesting, the night then dragged on. Forceful habitual of a late night meal, (in Korean town) pushed the hour toward 3:30 am. Suddenly the reasonable voice reminded aloud, Sleep or Die!
Getting dropped off to the car lot, Peak was asked multiple times - "Are you okay to drive? Are you sure?" Not knowing the alternative way out of not driving one self home, Peak relieved the friend the bother, and convinced him it was absolutely okay....
Last memory recalled, at the last stretch around the corner from reaching home, "Man, I'd be screwed if I get in an accident!" ... Seconds later, the surreal, delayed sound of sharp crashing and shattering glass, in slow motion, as the stereo still going, the upright position is now sideway, finally the reality came into the consciousness.... "Fuccccck! (etc. etc.)"
Unseatbelted, orientated herself to a standup position inside the enclosed, now sideway MCSC, standing on the ground through the broken passenger window opening, finally she figured out to get out by taking a chance and trust that top still works. Sure enough, the sunroof section opened, releasing the dazed Peak out into the chaos she has caused. "What just happened? Holy sh*t, did I black out?"
Fully admitted her own F-up. She stared blankly into the scenes of movements all around with concerned (though not known prior) neighbors. Damages were surveyed, 4 parked cars were hit, 2 of which were really bad, then there it was, in the middle of it all, the mightly little happy Mini, sadly sitting idle there in its unnatural position, under dimly lit street lights.
Questions were asked, routines were followed... responsibilities compiled..... Now what, she wonders.... now what....

Next, I'd like to say that you are brave for putting your story on this forum, however...
(puts on dad hat) I have to say this was completely irresponsible and reckless of you to do. Thank goodness you didn't kill yourself, or worse, somebody else. What were you thinking?!!!
Since your insurance lapsed, who's going to pay for those damaged cars? The owners?
Look, I'm not the type to typically rant about somebody's mistakes in middle of their misfortune and I'm sure I've made plenty of stupid mistakes myself (which by some stroke of luck, didn't lead me into a situation like yours). However, for some reason, your story has struck a chord with me this morning. Perhaps it's because I have kids who will some day be old enough to drive and have to make decisions like yours. I just hope, in some way, I give them the ability to make rational decisions when it counts the most.
You might think I'm being heartless, but I'm actually feeling compassion for you and your situation. I'm just upset because it could have all been avoided. I truly hope you work things out and that something like this never happens to you, or anybody on this forum, again. Good luck and stay safe.

Years ago my youngest brother was is the same boat, major damage without ins. He called the bank for help as he'd only had the car a year or so and had many more in payments. They were able to help although it was "high risk" coverage that only cover the actual car. They also charged him from day one for this ins. In the end it was a relatively good deal for all involved, the car got properly fixed the bank received all their payments on time. It was an expensive lesson but he learned...
Dear, I am perfectly willing to offer you my sympathy, condolences and whatever small help I can, but this statement:
leads me to ask this question:
Did the consumption of "adult beverages" play any part in this event?

That really sucks. Good luck

And not having up to date insurance stinks even worse - ouch...
