Do newer 07s have the engine ticking sound anymore?

Do newer 07s have the engine ticking sound anymore? I have an 07 that i received in late april and mine has the ticking sound (i actually love the sound), but i have not heard people complaining about the ticking noise recently. has BMW made a change in something? is the sound still there? people with recent deliveries please post.

It's the injectors. All of them (S's) will have the ticking sound unless BMW picks a different design, which probably isn't going to happen.

I haven't heard one of the new "ticking" cars yet.

So... does it sound like you've got a wicked solid-lifter engine?

BMWs have been ticking for a while. The MINI does this too, and it is just fine thanks! In fact, the new engines have won awards in Europe for thier design. And... in an MCS we are getting more than 100 bhp per liter!! Heh, heh, heh.

The ticking sound isn't going to go away. It is not a defect. It is the sound of the injectors clicking.

Groovy. Now if we could get a lumpy cam and throaty exhaust note to go with it....

There has been no change, except the people that wanted to cast the fuel injectors sound as some kind of defect have finally given it a rest.

The car clicks - its the Direct Rail Fuel Injection, and that sound is your bragging rights. Live it up.

Not to cause worry or concern but what will happen as winter approaches and the cold weather brings that horrid noise many people complained about at the engine start-up. Part of it maybe piston slap and the other part a lack of oil higher up in the engine?

one thread on the board speculated piston slap - that hardly makes it a fact.. the op of the thread even said he wasn't sure if that was the cause. if this were a GM vehicle then I'd be worried about it.

lack of oil? sure some oil will drain but there will always be some oil left in the bearings. the synthetic oil is plenty up to the task of lubing the surfaces for the couple seconds it takes to get the oil flowing.

Seems this question is about "to cause worry or concern". Maybe not. when the poster has very low post counts these types of posts are suspicious.

Sure the engine may be noiser when it first starts when in cold weather - most engines are.

*shrug* I'm not in the least bit worried.

Now that is has been broached. Romi does not tick either. Must be an MCS thing. Maybe?

Yes, the direct rail inject is a mcs phenomena only. No ticking for us with a mc.

In my post, I was referring to the normal, full time clicking of the direct injectors. It sounds almost like valve tapping, but lighter. A few people have said it makes the engine sound like a diesel, but I think that is a grand exageration. It's supposed to do it. I wasn't referring to any sort of start-up noise.

I think you need to take a valium and re-read who I quoted. Unless you also go by the name of impulsive. You can take your foot out of your mouth now.

I hadn't heard the clicking. Then with the car running, I could hear a little bit of it standing by the hood, and louder with the hood opening. I probably wouldn't have even noticed for a while until I spent time listening for it.
