iPod shuffle questions

I just got my first ipod, the shuffle version, and have a few questions:
  • It does not have a dock like other ipods. Is there an adapter that I can use with the aux. output?
  • If i plug it into the aux. outlet, will it charge the ipod?

You can plug any MP3 player with a standard ear phone jack, into your aux input. Head to your local radioshak/electronic store and buy the proper cable. Plug one end into the MP3 player, the other end into your AUX Input.

However, you will not get a charge for your shuffle from the AUX Input. You would need to a get a car charger for your iPod.

Now, as far the the MINI iPod factory cable, I do not believe that is compatible with the shuffle.

You could try a 3.5mm male-male coupler and just plug the shuffle straight into the aux input.

Same here, a male-to-male 3.5mm cable plugged into our aux input. As far as charging, I got a power adaptor that plugs into the lighter socket and has a USB out (Found it @ Best Buy)

I use one of the male to male 3.5 mm cables with my shuffle, but as you know, the shuffle also uses that headphone port to charge the player. You won't get that benefit when pluging your shuffle into the Mini's aux port. The ipod shuffle docking station has a special plug on it that both transfers data and charges. This isn't something that all 3.5 mm plugs do. Luckily the battery life on the shuffle is so long that you usually don't have to worry about it running out of juice.

I just bought a shuffle for my dad to plug into his Mini Cooper S, has anybody been able to organize the shuffle to be able to access your music by artist, album or genre via the mini's display? Also, has anyone tried using the docking cord that comes with the shuffle (plugged into the mini's USB port)?

Thanks!

As soon as I can find that little shuffle, I'll give it a try. I'll bet it will work.

The USB port on the MINI does not allow for actual audio to play thru the USB port. It will only play digital MP3 which are then turn into audio in the ULF-SBX-H module before being sent to the radio for playing.

As for the music being able to be selected by the controls I doubt it would work as on a shuffle the same jack is used for both data and audio on the same contacts and thus the data my work but the audio will not or the audio will work and the data will not.

Just to correct an old thread, the Apple Shuffle works fine connected to the USB port of my 2008 MCCS with HiFi version stereo. Steering wheel controls work fine, the Shuffle is charged while it plays, and the sound is great. The only issue is that while I Loaded the songs via itunes, the song and folder display nonsense 4 letter symbols instead of actual song names on the Minis display.

Actually, have to correct myself. The Shuffle (mine is the tiny 2009 model) does show Song name and Artist just fine. I had to leave the Shuffle connected for a while (about an hour), then it is just an instantly accessible audio source after that. Very pleased with that as an easy solution I had lying around.
