MINI's in heaven, but son is not!

I had a 2006 Mini up until 2 months ago. I loved that car. Everyone knew I loved that car, and no one ever drove it. Although I let the hubby once in a while, if he was good to me.

One night while I was sleeping my son decides he needs to go to 7-11. (no good food in fridg???) Well, a deer ran in front of him, he swerved to miss it and hit the curb, flipped over and landed upside down 60 feet in the woods. He then got out of my smooshed mini and called the police, who then called me to come get him.

He was alright!!!! My mini must of loved him as much as I loved her, because she saved my boy. The police said they can not believe he got out of the car. It was completely totaled.

Well just wanted to let everyone know that these cars may be small, but the hold up big time in an accident.

Anyhow, my son is ok, and I am now driving my new 2007 mini. Yes i got another, but I will always miss the first one who was so dear to me.

I also sleep with the keys in my room at night.

Thank GOD your son is OK, sorry to hear about your baby. Wow flipped it, that seems like it would take some doing as it's so wide and low, I can't imagine how that looked when they hoisted it out of the woods.

Let's call that a story with a happy ending! Thank goodness!

I wish it were under less under less frightening circumstances, but I'll still say
Welcome to NAM and I hope you're enjoying the new MINI!

my mini not in heaven

My mini had a bad run-in about 10 weeks ago. Again, as in your case, the car held up good and no one was injured. Accident was not our fault. , Unfortunatly the repair is about $5000 short of being totaled. As in stands now, they have put $8500 in parts, no labor. Wish it had been totaled as we don't really want it back after all that, but nothing much we can do. Enjoy your 07 and glad your son is OK. Don't you love those late night calls. We got one once on our son, and like yours, thankfully, he was OK.

Sorry, but are you sure that's what really happened!? Just seems to me that everyone always uses the "deer jumped out" excuse...I'm not saying your son is a lier or that isn't what happened....I'm just questioning it!

I say this because that is what my friend did when he was street racing and hit another car. He claimed a deer ran out and he hit it....

Some years ago I had one of those special converstations with my dad. He admitted to a few vehicle things his dad never got the whole story about. He asked me about the time "The Mountain jumped in front of me" but I stuck with my story.

My youngest son did exceptionally well on the skidpan at the Driver's Edge teen driving school a few months back. I asked him how he did so well. He said he had observed a lot of skids riding with his older brothers. He mentioned that my "perfect" first born always made his u-turn on our dirt road the same way Sean Connery does it in an Aston Martin.

Some could call it bad behavior. I think of it as a family tradition. Nevertheless, I recently replaced my youngest son's 87 Honda with a 99 Saab with airbags all around.

Jasper, are you sure nothing can be done? If they've got that much in parts with no labor, that makes the repair quite a bit higher. Plus there might be the "hidden" damage that will boost the bill.

Whoo, lucky boy that you owned a MINI! I avoided a deer when I had been driving less than a year, in a 1976 Fiat 128. I lost control, flipped, and rolled down a fifty foot embankment. Way before airbags, but, that Fiat was a sturdy little box of a car. I took off the seatbelt and walked away from a totalled car. I can tell you I never ever want to do that again. Then the cops gave me a ticket. How RUDE! Oh yeah, I promptly went and bought another 128.
Sorry for your car loss, happy your child is okay, hope you enjoy the new one as much or more. And do keep those keys under your pillow.

Would love to see some pictures of how mangled that brave MINI was that gave its life so stoicly for your son.....although I understand if having the pictures of the departed MINI might be too painful......

Glad your son was okay. Is he still allowed to drive? If I had done that when in high school I would have been in huge trouble and never trusted again...

Old deer story, some things never change, I'm surprised the deer is not extinct by now. Regardless glad you're son is okay, sad day for a great car.
