This install was super easy, the only reason I took it to the exhaust shop was because I had to keep the 2nd cat in place and I didn't have the tools to cut the stock exhaust piping. The new R56 has a cat on the downpipe as well as just before the resonator on the under body of the Mini. To be SCCA Stock class legal, I had to retain this 2nd cat, otherwise, the install could literally be done within 20 minutes easily. Anyway, here are the pics.....

Here is the infamous 2nd cat, that cannot be removed if you want to stay OEM on the cats or if you ever want to run in SCCA Solo stock class. It sure is a tiny little sucker with no O2 sensors after it......


Here is the installer cutting off between the resonator and the 2nd cat..........

This is where the Quicksilver exhaust would normally hook into if you didn't care about the secondary smallish cat...............

Here is a pic just after the OEM monstrous exhaust was pulled out. Boy, I sure do feel light now!


Here is a pic showing how the Quicksilver was mated to the stock exhaust, basically slipping the Quicksilver pipe over the OEM pipe. I opted to not have it welded since the clamps used are perfectly sufficient and this will allow for an easy swap out later on if I sell the car.


Another pic just after the rear section of piping and Quicksilver exhaust were put into place. I was amazed at how well everything fit! The R56 seems so much easier to deal with in regards to exhaust fitment since it is a straight through design compared to the R53.

If only I had a clue on how to do this. :impatient Anyone want to clue me in, I haven't had sound on my computer until just recently, so, I am clueless and might as well be deaf(no offense intended to anyone who is). I am willing to do it if someone shows me the way. ;-) I assume I just need a camcorder or some sort of recording device and then just upload it? It seems like it would be easy, now I just need to borrow one from someone. ;-)

 

I hear what you're saying. I've had my digital camera for a couple years now, and just found out the other day that it can do short video clips.
Maybe yours can too.

Geez! Just comparing these two shots, it's amazing how much bulk has disappeared in the transformation.

Can't wait to see the weight figures and hear it. I've heard the QS exhaust on MINI2 and am interested to see if the US cars sound a bit different with one installed. Terrific job. Thanks for the pics.

 

how about a sound clip?

 

I will check on this and get a 100% exact figure when I get back into town. I am just guessing, but, would say 15 pounds or so. I know its significantly lighter, especially considering the fact that they are routed in the same place, unlike the R53 where one side was deleted.
