2. 4 colors or more designs- No metallic or reflective. Gradients okay but discouraged. Less is often much, much more. We don't mean 4 color process here. Four visible colors.

White does not count as a color although you may use it in your designs.

You may enter either or both categories.
Submissions: To this forum by midnight Pacific time July 3, 2007. Voting will begin on the 5th after everyone's back from the holiday and end on the 7th of July at midnight Pacific time.

The Rules:

Who can enter? : Anyone may enter (except me) providing you are a member of North American Motoring. C'mon lurkers...register!
Only 1 submission per category per person.

Content: Keep it clean and moderately polite-that includes comments from the viewers. If you shouldn't post it on this board, then don't post it on this board. All designs should be able to be viewed uncensored by anyone. MINI related is encouraged, but not required.

Make your submission something that many would enjoy sporting on their MINI.

Artwork:

  • You do not need to be a graphic designer to show your stuff!
  • If you just have a great idea, get a buddy to help you mock it up for us, or do your best to make it happen so that we understand what you're trying to do...Your submission is limited to ONE IMAGE and you must submit an image.
  • All submissions should fit within a 3" diameter circle and should be posted in this forum at that size. Put the big version in your gallery (with a link?). 2D only. • Don't get too caught up in the limitations. Should you win, I'll work with you to get your art print ready.
  • You may withdraw your design and substitute it for one you like better ONCE during the contest and at least 3 days before July 3.
  • Be kind to your Motoring neighbors. Comments on submissions are okay during ht contest but let's keep it short.

Can the winner choose to get the $100 prize as cash instead of stickers and a t-shirt?

Nope. I don't think a cash alternative was mentioned.
Acutally it's badges, stickers and a tshirt....and fame.

See... you don't need to be. Send me your idea in a PM or post it here and I'll help you turn it into an image. Since I can't vote, it can't screw things up.

Lots of ideas are floating around out there. Just because a guy can't write doesn't mean he can't direct...as we've all seen. Throw it out there...

Send me a PM with a low res image. If I think it fits, we can talk about buying it.

Okay...firstly, this thread and contest are for folks who are interested. It's like the Marketplace ads, where someone is selling something and a gaggle of non-interested parties come on board to say how not interested they are--or "you'll never sell that for that price!"

Secondly, no one asked you to do spec work. I'm sure you're a great designer and don't need a silly contest. Truly, I don't need designs--I have more than I can get going at the moment, but I thought it would be fun for people--obviously not for you. If you'd like to continue this discussion , let's do it on another thread, okay?

Please try not to throw a wet rag on this before it even gets off the ground. Thanks.

Great contest idea!

One quick question: Does the badge have to be round? Not trying to be difficult, but I have an idea that may not work on a round badge.

I have some designs I've made into badges for myself, that include artwork copied from other places. This is so easy. Does the submitted design need to be 100% original? Probably, because I can imagine the liabilities would fall on you....
For instance, the image for one of my badges came from part of a NAM members sig (don't remember who). They probably found it somewhere else.

I understand where you are coming from, but there are lots of folks out there with cool ideas who would love to have them produced. To me, this looks like MotorSwag's way of getting the community involved and having fun with their badges. Frankly, I'm glad the 'badge' community is starting to thrive and more folks are getting into it.

Being professionals, we have a choice as to whether we do spec work or not. Participating in this contest is on a volunteer basis and not required by NAM.

It does have to be round, but it doesn't mean you can't do something like this:

Use your own judgement on this, but I'm not sure without seeing it. Some elements of my designs come from other places, but I either know they are public domain (some flags) or have permission or rights.

Case in point, the MOTD "official" badge contains a dragon from another source. They either have permission or no one knows who the owner is.

Hmmm
I wonder if I should put up an "entries" thread so the voters don't have to sift through our discussion. Don't get me wrong, the discussion is good.

Maybe I'll do that. PM me when you have an entry and I'll put up the thread.

Definatly a good idea to make a new thread with the entries when everything is said and done. You should talk to Mark or Dave about seeing if they could make you a poll thread to make the voting go abit smoother also.

Hold on there, cowboy!...Great Stuff! Really!

But you need to read the rules in post number 1.
Please do that and then edit your post and let us know which category(s) you're putting these up for.

Might be good to throw a title on each. Bear with me, we're working this out, today.

Per the post, you only get one submission per category, of which there are two.
