MINIs in the Mountains...Who's going?

I have been checking out the stuff on the MITM, and looks like it would be a fun road trip. I know the Pres is going, anyone else? I know it will take about 2 days to get there, 2 back, there a couple of days....Our trip is totally income-contingent....

Went last year....beautiful area, though the weather on the day we were there left a lot to be desired. Thinking of doing it again this year, but am still undecided.

That's cool. I think I would love to, just seems alot of driving, and anyone have a good estimate of the cost of a trip like this? Because April is not teaching over the summer, it makes things a bit tight then, but we'll see. I know it would be fun, but tiring...

Depending on where you stay during the trip you can figure $400 to $550 for 7 nights lodgings. You're also looking at around that for gas and another couple of hundred or so for food. Overall, I'd say you're looking at between $1100 to $1600 (depending on travel time, miscellaneous expenses, and so on).

On the balance, it does make for a nice MINI vacation in a really beautiful area.

You could probably knock a bit off cutting corners and being frugal on the spending. I'm just going by what we spent last year and adjusting for the increased gas costs and other differences.

If you want to try a MINI meet closer to home there's one at the end of June in Tennesee. Here's a link to the thread for it:

Went last year

Biggest expense was staying at resort, but we split it three ways and it was 108 bucks per night staying in the most lux pad. Motels cost around 70-90 and we stayed two nights out and two nights back. We paid as high as 3.60 a gallon for gas last year. All total spent about 8-900 bucks but it was well worth the beautiful rides and good food and about every kind of beer you can imagine. You can stay at the lodge in winter workers quarters for 60 bucks and it is no frills. Go to the web site and check it out. Right now Myself, Mark Olsen and Dr Art Payne are going hoping to get Steve from Hendrick also a four way split is even better. Alot of people will be looking for roommates to help fray the cost. There is discount lodging through NAM for MITM. The rooms are small, like dorm rooms, with a very small bathroom (but its your own). It's like $60 a night. Don't know if they're sold out of that yet.
