Semi Truck on Deals Gap
It maybe that the truck was not supposed to be on that road-someone should have called the cops. I noticed the truck was empty which is rare as the driver aren't making any money when empty- so the driver was either headed to pick up or had just dropped off he load and was on the way home. I wonder if the trucker was joy rideing- either way it's a very dangerous situation as it's impossible for the rig to make the corners and stay in its lane.
The guy in the video is FLYING through some of it... crazy. Must have been a weekday, cause very little traffic (luckily...).

The video was shot more than 2 years ago. The number of trucks on the Dragon has steadily decreased over the past couple of years. During my 10 odd trips this year, I've yet too see one.
P.S.:
Speaking of trucks, I'm not too sure if you guys have seen this video. Its probably the most amazing truck video I've ever seen.

Sorry for going OT.

I agree. I drive a truck and am always amazed by the observations of those who don't. Except for maybe some excessive speed in places, I think that driver did a decent job of keeping what appears to a 48' flatbed trailer on the road.
All the years I’ve been driving there I encounter at least one truck per visit on the Dragon. This last trip was during the parade.
I also agree he did a great job, what I meant is that due to the length of the rig the driver of the truck has to use the road like he did to not loose the trailer over the side. Since there is a double yellow line it creats a situation where it is impossible for the driver of the truck to safely navigate the road AND stay within the law. This happens with logging trucks more than others due to the remote areas they must go to to pick up timber. It's a catch 22- they have to get goods to the remote towns in the mountains but the roads often were not built for a rig that long and the states won't improve those roads because they are remote. I've handled too many claims were there was a car inside one of those curves-not a pretty site. Everyone please becarefull!
The driver (truck) could have at least let the motor be his lead. Thank god there wasn't any oncoming traffic. Last year during MOTD I encountered a big rig but he at least had a lead bike to give me fair warning
I should have elaborated a bit. The trucker did a good job of staying in his lane and, for the most part, keeping that really long trailer in the lane, too. The truck had an excuse for letting the trailer cross the double yellow. However, it appears from the video that when the trailer crossed, the bike followed right along into the oncoming lane. Maybe it was just that the camera leaned across the center around some of the curves, but that'll still get you killed when the oncoming car is hugging the line.
Well, unless you're there, and you're a rider, yourself, you wouldn't know the subtlties of what was going on in those moments.
When following a vehicle like that on a bike, you are fully aware that it is running 'interference.' IOW, anything that is oncoming will have to encounter the truck way before the bike, and, in all likelyhood, will either have to slow way down, or may not even make it past the truck in a bad case scenario. In addition, at those slow speeds, the rider has an eternity to get back into his own lane.
Doing a lot of city riding, I use other vehicles as 'blockers' quite often, especially when making left turns across busy intersections.

I've met some trucks and large SUVS that have done the same thing to me...and I'm not in any clubs or runs.
Gulp!
From my understanding, during "season," motorcyclists will escort trucks through the Gap. That truck might even have an escorts, but way in front of the camera, that flag on-coming traffic to pull over on straight section and wait for the truck to pass.
