Congrats on the job. I've never been to Denver, but if I were you, buy a portable GPS navigation.

You can't beat 90 to 80 for direct good roads, and boringness. I would guess any other highway route won't be much more entertaining.

Fun will get old after about 15 hours.

Take the fast route. Get to I-70 and go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go.

Maybe you could at least pick a few places along the way to drop in to?

MN-Lake Itasca, Mississippi headwaters, International Falls
SD-Rushmore, Black Hills

I-70 through Kansas is government testing ground for Boredom. That is one long stertch of straight road.

The shortest route from here by a bit (according to google) is 80 through Iowa and Nebraska. To get to 70, you would have to be on 80 in PA, which I hate. If your goal is 80, you can take 90 all the way to IL which I prefer. You're probably choosing your poison once you get to the heartland!

Well... I did say FASTest.

Boring is not limited to Kansas. The drive through Indiana and Illinois isn't exactly exciting on I-70. I used to drive straight through from Wichita to Pennsylvania. 20 or so hours. It's a wonder I stayed awake, even at the young age I was at the time.

Dude...

Correction: I-70 WEST of Salina KS is boredom... KC to Salina is actually a pretty decent drive, nice rolling hills and wide open highways.

Try the north route

thru rural NE (contact the Kernel of Corn at C.O.R.N. for suggestions) then thru WY and down west of Denver. There is NO % in taking Interstates unless you have to.

And of course when you get here, let us know. Give us a reason for a drive.

No matter what route you take, be careful! I've been in Denver 4 times and each time, they're working on the darn roads and always have the exit I need...closed! I bought a GPS and it helps through most of the way. It's just when you're actually in Denver that the fun begins!
