Lost the MINI dot on my key

The domed plastic dot on top of the lock button came off and got lost . I talked to a service advisor, and he seemed familiar with the issue. The very first thing he wanted to tell me was it wasn't covered under warranty. Gee thanks! Then he said the MINI dot isn't available separately as a part and it wouldn't be worth getting a $200 replacement key.

I'm sad to lose the MINI logo but the domed dot also really did help to quickly find the lock button. Has this happened to anybody else, and any suggestions for something else I can use to fill in the space?

Thanks, I give them a try. They can do valve stem caps, and this size isn't too far off.

Lost mine too! Someone somewhere makes that little logo button. If we knew who did it, I'm sure it would be cheaper thatn 200 bucks. Or 100 bucks. Or whatever. The hard part is supergluing the button to the key without supergluing the guts of the key and barfng everything up. Stay tuned. Mike Predina

I had this problem too, and I know a couple others that had this problem as well. In all three cases the dealer covered the new key under warranty (there are two different dealers involved between the three of us).

I'd say try calling around and see if you can find a dealer that will cover it. It may help if you know your service advisor pretty well.

I lost mine about a month ago. It really has annoyed me, but I forgot to mention it when El Kabong was in getting a new windshield this week.
I have to take him back in when they get my new overhead light in, so I'll mention it then and see if they'll cover it.
It just looks silly without the center portion of the logo.

Yahoo! Oh wait, that's a registered trademark...

I found the MINI logo dot stuck to the side of my cellphone. It was in the same pocket as the key. Now I have to decide on the best glue to use for reattaching it.

Most craft stores sell this E6000 glue. It works on EVERYTHING, and it's not liquidy like super glue to get into the little piece-parts of the key. It might just be perfect for this.

Cool! I'm glad you found it. Now...just find the right glue.

Same thing happened to me, car is not under warranty, have one with and one without, so basically the one without gets all the daily use.

I've got a slightly different key for my '04 MCS. One of the keys is all rubber, the "MINI" part is molded into the rubber. My other key has a sticker, or some sort of chrome piece w/ the MINI emblem on it, and it's peeling off. Would this mean I'd have to buy another key to fix this too?

Probably the best thing to do is pull off the piece that's peeling and reglue it more securely, before it comes off on its own and gets lost.

I got the same key as you AKIndiMini. But the sticker that was on it is no longer there. Just a big silver shape of the Mini sign. I've been trying to look online if there are any stickers and such but no luck. I don't even think its a sticker. I tried taking off the sticker but its on there pretty tight. I took a close look at it and where the sticker was its like a piece of plastic so I stopped trying to take it off in case I accidentally break off the plastic.

I second the E6000, but use it very sparingly. A little dab'l do ya! At least it rubs off if you get it in the wrong place, like rubber cement, until it dries.

Mini is marking it's territory. I wouldn't mess with it!

I did send off a message to Mike at Aesthetic Creations a few days ago and he just replied after returning from a trip. Yes he can make replacement stickers and also customised designs. Union Jack, checkers or color coded should make for a very nice personalized key!

What do you guys think about making custom Domed decals for the Keys? I could make cool stuff like Skulls and Cooper S logos. Maybe even JCW

Let me know what you guys think and I'll start a group buy for it.

Cheers

Well, you know I'm up for it! I'll match my visor stickers.

Hmmm.. Unwarranted Dot Displacement Syndrome (UDDS). Sounds like a class action suit is warranted.
