R56 Dealer installed accessories

I am awaiting my MCS. It's somewhere between the VDC and the dealer right now. Estimated Delivery Date was 5/5/2007 (four days ago). I called and they said they were expecting it there on the truck at any time.

I ordered the Mini Cooper S illuminated door sills as well as a few other dealer installed accessories. The MA, who has been great and very patient with me said a few things, which I can't remember to directly quote, but gave me the impression that this is the first time they (the dealer) are installing the illuminated door sills.

My questions:

1) Are the door sills for the first gen Minis the same or pretty close as the second gen Minis? I would think that since there are still a few options NOT available for the second Gen (like Alarm System, etc) that maybe the design of the door sills hasn't changed much, so perhaps installation on the first gen is the same or similar to the second gen.
2) Should I be concerned about this? Is this a common accessory?

I'm guessing that the MA just have been overly cautious about giving me a delivery date since they may run into an issue installing. Maybe he is just saying that this is their first R56 installation. That wouldn't be so bad...I guess.

Anyway, reassurances and such would be appreciated.

You're paying out the nose for the Door Sills. $700+ installed so I cut them out. Yes they are close to the first gen. And no, they are not common due to the amount of labor involved and the price...

I had the door sills installed by my dealer (Classic MINI in Ohio) and it was the first R56 they had done - no problems at all with the insallation at all - $648 installed with their NAM discount.

Hailpurdue,

Yeah, they are expensive with labor and parts and such. I just think they look so cool. Plus Uncle Sam gave me a little bit extra back with last years taxes so it's on him.

<Mark>. Thanks! Do people who get into your car for the first time notice them? When opened the door of a mini at the lot, and saw them, they were the first thing that caught my eye, even though the interior for this particular mini looked great. I also saw on the MINI International Site that they can make custom ones with whatever you want said in them. How cool would THAT be?? But for some reason MiniUSA only sells Cooper, Cooper S and Union Jack.

Oh, and my dealer is estimating $640, installed with labor.
