If you haven't seen it there's a video (not mine) on YouTube called "Last MINI Standing" that is MINI centric.

If any of you are in NJ, there's an all Scally MINI night race coming up at NJ Nostalgia Hobby on 11/9.

I think my nephew (7) infected me with the slot car bug !
Showed me his Carrera Evolution he got last year for Christmas and now I'm seriously looking into getting one. I had a no-name one some 25 years ago.
And of course, NAM already has a thread about it and all the usual suspects have posted
I saw that there are some choices regarding which system/brand and started looking into the Carrera Digital 132.
I kinda like the idea of multiple cars on only 2 lanes and that I can let ghost cars run.
Anybody any experience with it yet ?
Thanks,
Volker

Okay folks.....big 2008 news from Scalextric for classic Mini, MINI, and The Italian Job fans!!!
"The Italian Job, the cult British classic movie released in 1969, is famous for its iconic Mini Cooper car chase. To help fans around the world celebrate the forthcoming 40th anniversary, Scalextric is proud to announce the launch of a special edition triple car pack which also includes a DVD of the classic film."

I don't have a wife to interject some level of sanity and decorum (or even civilization) into my life, but my friends do make this same comment quite often.

My wife says that to me all the time. At least I think that's what she said...
THANKS for the IJ info - I immediately sent that quote to my local hobby shop and reserved the first one he gets in.

I liked these so much that once I had all three I could not resist running them a bit. So I searched online and found another set of three. The second set went in the glass case with the die cast stuff, and the first set I can now feel free to run.

Even small home tracks can be very interesting w/ the new digital systems. 6 cars, two lanes, lane changing....good stuff.

I belong to a club that gets together every Monday night...great fun, we're very lucky. The minis look great (to me), but they aren't very competative for the actual racing we do; no interest in a mini's only class...

I'm going to keep them mint for the time being and then run them on my home track when my boys get older...

Well, just when you thought it couldn't get any better.....after producing two of the Monte Carlo-winning classic Minis, for 2009 we are going to get (for the Mini 50th anniversary) the first, original 1959 Morris Mini Minor in 1:32. This will be a great one to have and drive....I can't wait!!!
edit: Oooooo....there's more. An R56 MINI Challenge car is coming out, too!!!!!! Nice!!!

Frankly I don't expect the cars to show up until the Fall, so there's ample time to save pennies. The R56 MINI Challenge car will be DPR ready (for digital) so that'll be cool as many of the MINIs came as digital cars already.
Also......Scalextric looks like they are finally ready to release their new digital power base that apparently is directly switchable between analog or digital. This could be a neat feature (assuming one has both kinds of cars), but I have a few questions that need resolving before I jump in on this one!!
Looks like it's gonna be an exciting (and expensive) 2009!!!

So who ended up buying the 3-car Italian job set?
My local hobby shop has one more left if anyone needs one:

I passed on this set in favor of collecting the Monte winners, this year's 50th anniversary offering, and the R56 MINI Challenge car. You have to love Scalextric's amazing offerings in the MINI/Mini realm.
I've been working on my own race track...it runs on three levels. Some pics are in my gallery.
