I got kind of tired of calling up MINI USA and asking nicely for stickers and stuff, having them say yes and then never getting anything.

Inspired by seeing and reading the "Men of Metal" 'book excerpt' on the web, though, I thought it would be neat to find a print copy. I tried eBay and saw nothing. I did a search and found the name of the ad company that did the campaign. Crispin Porter + Bogusky. Another search turned up their web site and a 24 page selection of their best MINI work.

I figured I had nothing to lose so I sent them an email asking if they had a leftover copy of the Men of Metal excerpt. I got a nice note back from a fellow there who pointed out a video about it on their web site and also said that he would send me some stuff.

Three days later I received an envelope stuffed with

• The Men of Metal excerpt
• The MINI "centerfold" ad
• The MINI "Jekyll & Hyde" ad
• The Counterfeit MINI Coopers brochure
• A "mad libs" ad
• The "Milk carton"
• The "Manual of Motoring"
• The "Unauthorized Owner's Manual" with the toggle switch relabeling kit
• The (abridged) Book of Motoring
• The Book of Motoring
  The MINI "states" sticker ad
• The "Greetings from Mile Marker 73" ad
• The "MINI Guide to Tranquility, Bliss & Utopia"
• Six articles about the development process for the ads, the inspiration and the awards they won.

Those guys are great!

 

That is so cool! I stole your idea and emailed them as well! I'll let you know the results...

Hopefully they won't be flooded with emails from NAM members before they send me some stuff!

 

I guess it would be easy to get extra stuff from them now that they'll be cleaning house of MINI. They've got to make room for VW.

I wonder if they'd send me some Burger King Chicken Fries.
