MTTS metal badge? I'll have to check our local dealership tomorrow. I surely want that one. I rode with the MTTS group from Virginia Beach, VA across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (the 17 mile long one). We had a blast. I even have a few pics taken from the helicopter they had taking group photos. I must get me a metal badge now!!!

If they don't have one, let me know and I can pick one up for you.

Just thought I'd give this thread a little bump. I've been so busy with work and family, that I haven't had time for my hobbies.

What's up with that?

For those of you that make your own badges, is there something type of coating you put on top to make it resistant to fade and other elements? Either a plastic or spray enamel of some sort, even nail polish clear coat perhaps? I have some something printed on white vinyl, but afraid it'll turn yellow if I try and apply something.

There are UV protective clear-coat sprays that I get at Lowes. The key thing is to let the inkjet dry completely before spraying on a coat. I didn't wait long enough with one batch and it soaked into the paper, turning the badges dark and later cracking from exposure to the elements. The nice thing is that I just print up a replacement!

The trading has gotten a bit slow, so I decided to think through this a bit.

I think there can be ways to make badge trading grow.

For instance, I'm just about out of badges to trade, but would love to have the option to get more badges that are offered up.

What do you guys think about buying/selling badges as well? For instance, IF somebody has a badge that you like, but isn't necessarily interested in your badge, a sale of that badge would be a great option.

You could feel free to gauge interest on this thread and make your initial production quantity based on the feedback of others.

Pricing? I think folks can charge what they want, but I'm partial to just charging what I pay to get them produced, plus postage. I'm not in this to make a profit, but rather share cool badges.

Example: If I decide to make a more generic badge like, Mark Wedge did with his "Obey MINI" badge, and everybody wants one (but has nothing to trade), I'd gladly sell it without a trade.

ALSO: If you are a dealership or vendor. I can't think of a better way to promote your business than to give away badges with your logo. CooperFlags had a great idea by offering their badge up for basically the cost of shipping.

Fantastic idea!

like I said before, I plan on making a ton of custom badges, after I get the special cutter and get my printer up and running(first week of October)

I'll keep you guys posted when I start it up.

After reading back over this post I realize it might not read as what I meant. In no way was I implying that Mark's badge was generic. What I was referring to was less "owner" specific. My next badge will be less dickdavid and more MINI.

Generic is way to go !

RichardDavid ,

I too thought from the beginning I wanted my badges to be more generic.

I like the generic badges, but love the personal ones. It kinda reminds me of PathTags. I like the unique touches that make the badges more personal when trading.

I just don't think anybody would spend money on a dickdavid badge, like they would for a generic MINI badge.

Sorry mate but that collection is severely marred. A badge of the Mets?

Hey, don't forget the MINI copyright issues, though...Great idea, however! Or, if I read you right, how about trading/selling the badges we already own from vendors? (at a used rate, of course, not selling for what the vendor's selling them...)

Why not! This is an all trade thread. I don't care if you are trading personal, bought or homemade badges. Plus, I don't care if you are trading cash for badges as well.

While we're at it, why not trade other cool MINI collectables for badges. Maybe a cool Johnny Lightning, Italian Job, die cast MINI for a CooperFlags, Made In The UK badge. As long as we're moving around badges.

OR....if somebody finds an unusual badge or something, and gets an extra one.... (like the Ugly Pug badge, or a special Dragon badge, or something...)
