Badges? I need more stinkin' badges!

I've had the same eight badges in rotation since I got my MINI in December so it's definitely time for more.

Cooperflags wasn't making badges when I got all mine, so I might check them out. I think I still prefer the designs from motoringbadges, though I am very intrigued by this talk of thicker badges and high quality. They really need to get together and have some kind of grill badge love child.

I am really loving the Shepard Fairey inspired designs. What would be double plus awesome would be genuine Andre The Giant Has A Posse/Obey Giant badges.

I would totally dig that. I wonder what Shepard's rule on that would be? He's made his OBEY/Andre art available for folks who want to make their own stickers and post them. I guess if somebody were to make a 'custom' badge for personal use, they might be cool with it. However, for somebody like Cooper Flags or Motoring Badges to make and sell them for profit, it would be a big no-no. At least that's what I think.

I'm guessing he wouldn't be down with a store selling them for profit, but having a custom batch printed up for trading/selling at cost would definitely be in the spirit of his whole endeavor.

Or what might be just as good would be to come up with some bootleg style designs. Some variation ideas:

'MINI Cooper has a posse' along with some appropriate stats. Height/length and weight would be a direct copy, or you could do HP and Torque, or any number of things. Obviously it'd be different for the various models. I'm thinking either the traditional black and white or maybe a splash of color on the car would be nice.

'Andre The Giant has/drives a MINI' - same as above, only with the Andre head poking out of the MINI. He'd probably have to get a cabrio, or stick it out of the sun roof. I think 7'4" might be a bit tall.

Obey MINI

etc.

That would be awesome. At some point Shepard's mom had a MINI, plus Shepard has produced a poster for MTTS 2006, so he IS MINI friendly.

FYI, I dug up an old email from them from 2005, when I was looking into getting a roof graphic made with the OBEY logo:

If you were thinking about the moon roof graphic for profit or more than one use - we would unfortunately have to decline to use of the image/graphic due to licensing reasons with our clothing company. But if you add it to your car send us some pics, we will be excited to see you final results! Shepard's mother also had a the same idea and added an OBEY Icon to her mini as well. Once again, Thanks for your interest and inquiries!

I never got that graphic for cost (and other reasons), but as you can see, they do have restrictions to the usage of their art.

I was going to pick up some extra badges at the GWR 500 in Virginia next weekend for trade on this thread. I see that they are not doing badges, but stickers. Sorry. I like magnetic badges for these events. Stickers can't be rotated.

Life's a box of....
what's that saying?

Just to avoid any confusion, trading is happening on the other thread.

That's too bad about GWR 500. I would love to have gotten a badge from that event. When is it going to happen, BTW?

If they're badge sized stickers you could just slap them on some magnetic backing and make your own.

Does anyone know if it s just easier to just putting a bumper sticker material on a magnet for custom badges or is it best to get a printable magnetic material?

I'd buy from a company but I have about 20 or 30 ideas for my custom badges and really don't want to pay the price for that.

Any ideas?

Since you have so many ideas, I would go with the printable material. The problem is, in either case, is getting a smooth 3" diameter magnet. Cutting a perfect circle isn't easy.

With the exception of their "Owner's Club" badges (and the ones with a new MINI on them), I can't see why you couldn't put any of those badges on a classic. IMO.

Or, are you looking for more traditional, classic Mini badges? Having the classic mini logos would be cool, even on a new MINI.

Like this one from Motoringbadges:

I like the more traditional ones like that (i wouldn't buy it because my Mini isn't a cooper but...)

Was looking at Shepard Fairey art on different websites. I really like the OBEY Gear design. Does anyone know where to find a static high resolution picture of this.
