Where do I get badges? Do you guys make them yourselves or buy them? And if you buy them, from where?

Thanks

edit: I think I was a bit premature in posting the above, I thought the thread was just one for posting your collections, but now I see all the places to buy from.

Are all of the badges bendable magnets? or are there metal ones too?

This thread is mostly about the bendable magnet kind. The metal ones are cool, but much more expensive and a little less flexible to trade out.

Most of the badges are 3" in diameter. Thickness varies from vendor to vendor.

If thickness matters, Cooperflags' badge is about twice as thick. They also offer custom badge orders:

http://www.cooperflags.com/ProductDetail.cfm?ID=308

My local club got custom badges made with Motoringbadges a while back, but I'm not sure if they're still offering that.

Your best bet is to contact them and ask if they off that service.

The issue is getting custom badges in a manageable quantity. Most vendors won't produce single or small quantities.
One solution we came up with is the Badge Trading Thread. This is a place where folks can trade their extra badges for badges they don't have. You still have the cost of multiple badges, but at least you're not stuck with the same one.

Thanks.

Are you able to put the badge right on the car itself without damaging the paint? (I don't have my Mini yet)

You can, but it's not recommended. It will most likely damage your paint. This has been proven hundreds of times by those vehicles sporting the "support our troops" ribbon magnets.

Your best bet is to get a badge holder. There are several vendors that offer those as well, from the OEM version from MINIUSA (goes on the grill) to some innovative options offered up by some of the vendors here on this board.

I happen to have an OEM version on the front and a double boot badge holder from CooperFlags on the back. I prefer the boot badge holder because more folks get to see your message.

They all came in the mail at once! The I (heart) curves and Hello my name is, were both free from Designs for Motoring. I am done for a little while now. At least until MTTS. I forgot to add the badge that I got from MinixB, but it's on my car right now.

The Stig ones are probably my favorite ones. I bought 2 of the 3, but I know that I'm going to get the other one, I just don't know why I didn't get it at the same time!

But, that's the trouble I get into. I find myself getting extra badges just so I can make the 'package' deal. I had to force myself to just get three on my last order.

Well, if it makes you feel better, I've never made the package deal. I don't order enough at one time. I'm a compulsive shopper, even though I know that I want 7-8 from one company, I'll only buy 2-3 at a time.

I'm 99% sure it is, if that helps.

And you just might have problems. Consider joining Motoring Badges Anonymous?

Looks like I might be the founding member. Thanks for the info. I'm either going to do this or the metallic paint.

Could there be a "Motoring Badges Anonymous" badge?

Why not, eh?

Whichever you do, post pics. I do think the galvanized steel would look pretty cool...you could potentially cut it out in MINI shapes (car profile, wings, etc.) I think that'd be pretty B.A.

You can put them on your vinyl boot stripes and they won't damage the paint.
Dirt gets under them pretty quickly if they are on your paint. Professional sign companies make those big business vehicle signs out of a different magnetic material which is safer for vehicles.

Looks like Cooper Flags is at it again with some new designs:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=148109

and they'll be represented in Chicago.

Would it be wrong for me to want all 4 badges, even if I only make it to one event?

Is it wrong to want to buy the LA one when I've already got the generalized one?

I have to find the booth that will be selling these! Dickdavid, if you want me to get you one, I can!

Thanks. I'll let you know by the event if I haven't figured out a way to get one online.
