Breaking the Washing Rules
$140 for a BMW oil change really is not that much at all considering they usually do a few other things. But I stress that is a BMW oil change. My 750 use to run over $400. Makes for a good arguement to do it yourself. But it is nice to blame someone else if there is a problem.
But aside from that... I too washed my car last night in the quickly falling 40 degree temp. Now I am heating my garage up so I can try to get a coat of wax on before the snow tomorrow

Ya know, I heard that D&R increased their oil change price to over $100 (it used to be $50). When I heard that, however, I searched for another place. Since I don't trust Jiffy Lube (nor any other "quick lube" place), I had to find something else. I did. Get in contact with MINIGURU (miniguru7@yahoo.com). He did my last one for $50. Heck of a lot cheaper than the dealer.

Anyway, it is not a touchless, but is cloth based not brush based. I may try it on my current car. I don't know if it is MINI friedly or not. The thing is extremely well lit up and the clear walls lets everyone see your car becoming cleen again, or how pore of a job it does!

Air horn on a Cooper? That might be a bit much. Plus where would you put it under the hood. Not a lot of room there. But it would be pretty slick to have a pair on either side.
Side note of oil changes. I did my first at 6k miles myself, and I plan to do another around 18k. Really is not hard at all. The oil filter is right on top, and with a set a ramps it is pretty simple to get under the car. If anyone is up to the challenge I could give them a hand with their first go at it.

Air horns on a MINI?? Actually your not the first one I had ask me about putting different horns on there car. I think I can do that, just go to pick one that will sound good.
As for the oil services, no prob. if anyone wants them done. I am working on putting together my yearly tech day for the club. If anyone wants me to do something special I'am up for ideas.

How about brakes? What day in February are we planning? Maybe I will actually make that event.

Ok, going back to car washing for a second. I took my clean Cooper north this weekend, and now she is covered with the chemical de-ice stuff. Aside from look bad, is there any concern with this it? I am not real familiar with it. I did wash my windows and reflectors, but I don't think I will be able to do the car till next week.

And, yes, you should get that stuff off the car. It's not good. However, you'll be washing daily if you think that you can keep up with it.
Yeh, it doesn't look good, so I figured the best thing to do was risk a wash.
So, I went to the "Rock N Wash" on Rockville. North side of the street, just west of the Lynhurst & Rockville light. Touchless wash with normal for $6 and undercarage for $7. Went for the undercarage wash. Did a very nice job. Missed a few spots on the boot, but otherwise very good. Only downside is I spend too much time letting the dryer do the front that it turned off early. Ooops. Good thing I am only about 2 miles away so I could rush her home to the garage.

If I have the time in the winter, I go to the you-spray-it-yourself place. They have overhead doors, which makes it tolerable. Since they are not too busy, you can even dry it off inside. It a little cheaper as well

Finally looked for the new car wash in front of Wal-Mart tonight while shopping in Avon. Doesn't look like it is far from being done or if it is done it wasn't open.
Yeh but, the soap is real smelly. I almost gagged on it. But the wash did do a pretty good job.
I also found (drove past and then tried) a touchless on the north side Crafordsville road just west of the track. It too did a nice job, and just with the smell of soap.

Inside of our barns we have wash racks for the horses, basicly a three sided room with a drain and water hook-ups.... I bet you could fit a Mini in there! And now that I've thought about it I know you could back into it and have plenty of room to get around it....
It would work too except we just put up the arena wall where we used to have the open side with dressage railing.... dang! When I get my own barn again I'll have to make sure that the Mini would fit through the isleways and into the wash rack!

After a exciting Sunday drive, my MINI is dirty like a real rally car. I really want to wash it but, it is too cold out. Does any one know where I can wash and dry my MINI without freezing myself? By the way, I cannot go through the express wash becasue, the car has been lower.
