New Camera... New Pictures

I just got my self a new Camera (Sony Alpha DSLR-A100W) and attempting to take new pics and explore the world of photography. Started with the MINI and I just love going at it. I read the whole manual and I'm also exploring the options of the camera ... this is the start

Please do help with comments and suggestions... (sorry about the huge pictures )

The lighting is great! I like the reflection in the water shot, the composition works for me.
Please tell us what the towers are. The architecture is leading edge, so keep taking pictures.

thanks for the input...

well the towers, Kuwait Towers, were built in 1975 and they were built to act as water tanks for emergencies (hot weather and no natural source of drinking water = water towers). The big tower has a restaurant, 3 cafes and a multi purpose hall in the Center Sphere. The small sphere is basically a viewing location with telescopes and maps on the glass and the interior rotates every half an hour... The middle tower is basically a water tank that hold 1 million gallons of fresh water. The little one is lighting tower for the other two you can check out more info and pictures at http://www.kuwaittowers.com/ + dorky background music

I really like that "9 Shot", if you know what I mean.
The vertical composition is great. I'm just a bit confused with the lines on that one. The horizontal grille line doesn't seem to parallel the building's foundation line. I'm guessing you were probably taking the pic at an angle that didn't make this possible.

I have to agree with Kurt regarding that water reflection shot. You should try more of those. Experiment. Maybe even consider having the Towers reflected rather than in the background- to make them a bit more subtle.

Thanks for sharing your pics and congratulations on the newcamera.

Actually the door it self was not parallel with the floor or the top. To make things more complicated, the concrete top of the door is not parallel to the floor... what can I say "good craftmanship". I had to skip 5 or six photos due to that, and my shaking hand with the heavy lens , and I cropped the "9 shot" from the top, bottom and the sides to make it look better and give it that nice vertical space.

this is the original...

and the last picture is also cropped to make it more interesting in my openion, the original of it is as follows

thank you for the nice comments and much appreciated advice

I don't know exactly, but not too many out there. I run into 4 or 5 all the time, but I know that there is lots more.

I looked at the Kuwait Towers on Google Earth. Found the BMW/MINI dealer, too.
I was suprised to see "American" restruants like Chilis, TGI Fridays and Fuddruckers !

Loved the photos. You have a very good photographer's eye. Anyone can take a pic. Not everyone can make it look front cover perfect!!
