I'm sure this could be rigged up to be powered off a separate 12volt battery as well.
I recently purchased a DVD Burner that is small enough to be portable and am wanting to give this a try. I have the inverter, and was curious as to how you are actually able to make sure that your vacucam is aimed correctly and whether it is also focused when using this method. Do you have a small monitor that you carry around to make sure that everything is correct in terms of camera direction, focus, etc..?

I am also going to assume that you hook the camera up to the input of the DVD burner.

If you can/do hook a small monitor up, can you hook it up to the output on the DVD burner and view what is being recorded at the same time via the monitor?

Yes, I've tried a small LCD monitor hooked to the DVD Burner, but what also works is a camcorder--if it has a video input as well--use the display on the camcorder to adjust settings as well as for focusing of VacuCams. Potentially a laptop computer with an analog video in may work for just display.

The DVD burner I have has a Firewire port---so I used that port connected to my dv camcorder for previewing. But no, not while I was driving. I just unplugged the camcorder, and hit Record. Too many things are connected and the potential for distraction or getting confused by all the cables was too great.
