Need a new Camera...
Like the title states, I need a new camera. I have dabbled in Mini photography, and have an appreciation for it and fine electronices. I also have a tripod, and need something very nice, versatile, and easy to use - around $400. I was thinking about the Sony DSC-H2. Any recommendations, suggestions on this or any other cameras?

Thanks!

Thanks!
Don't get a Cybershot if you're into photography. We have one, and sure....it's a GREAT point and shoot for $400, but I would MUCH rather spend a little more and buy a DSLR. What are you're needs for the camera?

If you want a higher end non DSLR take a look at the Canon S3. Seems to be a pretty nice camera. 36mm - 432mm with image stabilization. DSLR's are great, but not for everyone. It's more the photographer than the equipment. Amazon has the S3 for $447.

oooo.... now the H5 is looking enticing- 3" screen... check out this review on amazon!
"I originally bought the canon S3 and after a week with it returned it back to Circuit City. I already owned the canon S2 and saw NO real image quality difference so I decided to eat the 15% Circuit City restocking fee by returning it. I then picked up the Sony H5 and instantly fell in love. The image stabilization worked incredibly accurate and the huge LCD screen is awesome. When I got home I charged the batteries and started snapping away and "damn" can this camera really deliver some real sharp pictures. WOW... I can honestly say that for a long time now, I know I made a very wise purchase. I am so happy with my new camera."

My younger sister works at Ritz Camera, while I haven't talked to her about this particular question she basically recommends most Canons or Nikons... I'm sure there are other good brands but you really can't go wrong with these... It also depends on if you want to spend extra on a compact camera. And definitely buy a camera with the most megapixels you can afford. I recommend checking out cnet.com. They do pretty thorough reviews of electronics and I've found their advice to be quite helpful on many purchases.
The one thing that the S3 has that this camera doesn't have is a movable LCD screen. Once you've used one of those you won't want a digicam without one. Although the one on that Sony is quite large. The other thing that bothers me about Sony are those darned proprietary memory sticks. You should go to the store & try these cameras out before buying.
i don't know if you looked at overstock.com yet, but here is a link. just make sure what you buy isn't refurbished. it says it when you go to check out.
