I don't know how much you're willing to spend but there's a product out there called a CruiseCam that runs about $45 and attaches to the headrest bars of a seat to secure the camcorder. It's similar to the mount you made with the monopod, except it doesn't require zipties.

The only real problem I had was that, initially, I didn't tighten the ball mount enough. I hit an expansion joint and the camera flopped over. I found a safe place to pull over and fixed it. As soon as I learn how to use the video editing software I'll post some shots.

A couple of things
Nethack you got a PM
Second, is anyone using a DIY headrest mount also running a Schroth harness? Since it runs under the headrest, my own prototype mount wasn't usable since it blocks the path of the harness.
