Hey,thanks for posting the picture of the big Barney looking guy in that silly little car. I had a great time. I have almost committed to the MINI/Mini meet east Phil wicks class on June 29th. A day at the track and 2-3 days of all sorts of mini/MINIs. Can that be beat? I don't think so.
thanks, Phil

Thanks for all the compliments I'll try and have a few more up this evening, today is kinda busy for me. The Phil Wicks car story is pretty accurate, just wanted to add what was also explained to me, apperently just before going out on the track he was doing burnouts in a near by parking lot, then proceeded straight to the track, then he was driving in what I'd consider a less than safe manner considering the cars around him and then you can tell by the skid marks ge lifted mid corner and the car went around. Worst part is that a little more grip/actions by the driver and he could have at least avoided the wall. But thankfully everybody was ok, and it happened toward the end of the session so we probably only missed 2-3 laps of our session.
I have to say I can agree with everything you say except one. I seriously doubt given the information you've provided he could have saved himself after sending the car out of control in that area of the track (Bishops Bend). Once offline in that area there is nothing to get a grip on. The outer portion of the track has dirt and gravel already on it and all that is left after that is more dirt and grass. Once he lost it, the wall was a forgone conclusion. He learned several important lessons that day, most already mentioned.
The MINI drivers do have one very big thing to be thanked for though. This was one of the safest events I've seen in a long time. That was due to the participants first and foremost. You should all be congratulated!

That was safe? There were several instances where I really thought MINIs were going to bump, myself included. Several times I was within a car-length of the MINI ahead of me (with my instructor still giving me tips to go even faster). We easily could have had an incident. It was a rush, though.
I, too, think this group of MINI owners did a great job in making the day safe. Each driver I worked with was obviously interested in listening and learning, the two most important skills to bring to the track for DE.

Are you guys making the trip out to SC? Might be fun to have some competition in your class... I dunno the roll cage is whats holding me back right now, but maybe.Minibeast- I wasn't in the car so don't know what he could or could not have done, but know all he needed was a few feet ethier way to avoid the wall, which is more what I was trying to get across, I'm sure he did what he thought was best after he "crossed the line" so to speak.
