Chinook Arch

If you haven't seen one of these before (east slope of the Canadian Rockies) - a chinook arch at sunset. Warm, windy day in Calgary.

WOW, that's a good catch. (I missed tonights because of "duties" by several minutes)
Please explain to a Zonie, what is a Chinook Arch? Is it the way the clouds are tumbling over the mountains? I was expecting a heliocopter!
BTW: Where's your MINI in the picture? :(

This explains it (with a much better photo!!)
Chinook Arch

A "chinook" is that warm, dry wind coming over the eastern slope of the Rockies - like Santa Ana or sirocco. Native Indian word - translated locally as "snow eater"!

My MINI is parked in the driveway at the bottom of the photo (which is taken from my balcony)...I'm surprised you missed it!

Thanks for the description... I know about dry wind, and dry heat, and dry dust.

Hey YYC, I'm in Calgary too! Here is a shot from my backyard last year, you can see its really an "arch" in the sky. It forms following the Rocky Mountain's contour.
