NON MINI--1960 Corvette

1960 Corvette Detailing
Here are some pix from a shoot yesterday that I'm making into a How-To video with my friend Mike. I shot the video and helped buff out the single stage lacquer paint. Of course Mike did most of the work, but I had a ton of fun! Our shoot lasted from 8AM until 7:30PM.

My appreciation for classic cars continues to grow the more I'm "intimately" exposed to them!

Camera was Nikon Coolpix 4300 Point and Shoot. Things to note are exposure and focus control are tricky on a black reflective object. To capture the swirls I had to use the close up flower mode and a steady hand. The finish is now swirl free.

Car images are cropped to highlight before and after finish.

First Day of Production

8 Coats of Lacquer

Nice but lots of swirls!

I love his garage!

Swirls aren't as visible in the garage

After the buff out

We used #80 with a DAPC along with NXT Tech Wax. This was followed by #7 Glaze. Entire chrome was taped off.

Look at that shine!

Mirror!

Shiny!!

Glossy!!

What a beauty!

Here is a big for an awesome looking vette. Great job taking care of the swirl marks!
I love the first gen vettes.... One of the best looking vette designs ever.
I owned two C5's. 99 FRC (fixed roof coupe) and a 04 Z06 which I just recently sold. I loved the car, but could not fit with a helmet on. So why own the thing when I can't track it.... but it was an awesome car... The mini has more headroom and the windshield is not at my forehead like the steep raked vette winshield.
But I will miss the instant throttle response and torque of the LS6...

Thanks Mikem3! Nice Vette there!

Here a still shot from the video of the Before and After. The left side is the Before and the right is after it was machine buffed. We did this "test strip" to determine whether our process would be effective. I didn't take any camera shots of this unfortunately, just video.

All the swirls that were present by the owner are seen here.
